Pat Summit was the face of womens sports for 30+ years
That's a pretty significant exaggeration even though Pat was great. She was clearly passed by the younger coach in UCONN after 98 even if you only consider women's basketball and not sports like soccer or track and field
Eight championships for Pat
1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, and 2008
quote:
Geno Auriemna
Twelve championships for Geno. And the highest winning percentage in women's basketball history
1995, 2000, 2002–2004, 2009, 2010, 2013–2016, 2025

At the time of her retirement at the age of 59, Pat Summitt was the all-time winningest basketball coach in history (men's or women's), had the most titles in women's basketball, and the most final fours.
The reason Geno has passed her now is because he is still coaching at age 71. She was the definition of womens basketball for 30 years and her impact on womens sports is greater than his by a landslide. Who knows what she wouldve done if she hadnt had to retire at her peak. Her symptoms started in 2009, 1 year after she won back to back titles. You are a fool. The womens basketball hall of fame is literally in Knoxville TN because of her. They have a whole week of game dedicated to her each week in womens basketball despite the fact she hasnt coached a game in nearly 15 years.
If you wanna know what her impact is, look at the fact that she was gifted the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Something that Geno or no other SEC coach has been awarded

Why is his (Geno's) winning percentage better? Pat was great but he was better. Better winning percentage, better heads up, more championships.
For that matter if we're talking about women's sports in general you appear to be unaware of North Carolina women's soccer.
This is the list of 21 championships that Anson Dorrance won between 1979 and 2024 at North Carolina coaching women's soccer
1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012

In the time they overlapped as coaches Pat Summit won more titles, more final fours, and more wins. Either way this thread is about SEC coaches and their impact

“People think I'm the greatest damn coach in the world," said the great Bear Bryant, "but Neyland taught me everything I know."
That quote speaks well of both men. Neyland above Pat everyday. He also served in both World Wars. That generation of coach had some genuine heroes in it”
Neyland gets a negative for whining after losing to State 7-0 in 1950 and vowing to never bring a Tennessee football team back to State. And it would be almost 40 years before Tennessee would play State at Scott Field.
If you lose to a team, maybe just maybe they were the better team that day regardless of where the game was played. But to act like a baby and cry about it like that shows very little character as a Coach.

All respect to Pat Summitt, but one does not exactly
“win” the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
