I have issues with people not finishing what they started. Baker came back to win a natty and the team failed and now he is quitting. I will never respect that

I'm pretty sure Oklahoma will lose in the CFP. Again.

You aren't very bright. You do realize there's a big difference between being benched by coaches vs deciding to sit because you're selfish, don't you?

I promise you that some players insist on playing those games for a quarter or two, then tell the coach to take them out.

Some of the players will feign injuries to not play, and some will insist on playing. Coaches don't have as much input as you might think. Some do. Some do not.

No. The team sits them. The players don’t unilaterally decide not to play.

If a player decides not to play in a game he doesn't. If you don't understand this then I can't explain it to you. They can come up with injuries, etc. Are you under the impression no player has ever sat out a game when he was not truly injured?

I think the answer to this in order to save college football is that these guys should be given a large cash disability policy based on their projected draft. You play in the "meaningless" bowl game, get a significant injury, and you get the money from the policy. The NCAA needs to double down on this. They are making tons of money on the backs of the athletes, no reason they should not provide them with some form of financial security.
That or how about paying these guys. It is funny how the SEC can make 500+ million in a year of its football players, yet not give them a fricking shite.

Who is supposed to pay them? The Universities and the NCAA are both non-profit, and the money they make gets put back into the programs and universities to support those very same players. People act like the NCAA sits around stealing the money. Most Universities can't even afford it. If they get paid, do they have to pay taxes, and should they get a scholarship if they're going to get paid. The NCAA and athletic programs already pay them handsomely if you think about it. Free education, free room and board, free books, free medical care, free everything. Don't they also get stipends now?

The best option is to let players make money however they can, including signing autographs and other things.

Non playoff bowls don't mean jack to these NFL bound players and I don't blame them.
By the same logic, neither should regular season games for teams not competitive for the playoffs. Is the next evolution going to be draft eligible star players dropping out in the first week of Nov, if not earlier, for combine prep.

The chance to win a Sugar Bowl trophy as an SEC team used to be a big deal. But, it is a new era I guess. Can't wait for the playoff expansion to see an even greater deterioration of importance of both the regular season games and traditional post-season bowls.

The NFL is non profit, yet they are able to pay their employees instead of providing a dorm room and food at the lunch hall. So using the non-profit isn't an excuse to not pay the people (football players) who bring in the money. Also how much is stipends? Like a few thousand at best? I still think the players need to be paid. In the real world, everyone else gets paid and then the person the decides what to do with their money, like pay for a room, books, etc. There is a way to pay players but the NCAA will not like that, and as such, the stars will sit out more and more meaningless bowl games. Also how much money are these companies making off these bowl games and the players?

Sitting out 3-4 games for one month is different than one game. Also, even for crappy teams some guys want to play in the rivalry game.

Florida/FSU or UF/UGA is way the heck more important than a peach bowl vs big ten Michigan.

Eta: I see your point to a degree, but just don't see it getting to that level.
