It’s not changing from COFH. This is just a new game that will be played annually and happens to be COFH. AMB Sports and Entertainment is starting a new classic and offered a pile of cash to move it off campus. I think both Georgia and GT get $10mil for the game and GT gets additional considerations since it is technically a home game.

Why is it being played in MBS this year? Why take it off campus?

GT signed a deal a couple of years ago with Mercedes Benz to play one home game a year there. Probably in the hopes of elevating their broke dick program.

I think it's dumb to change the name, but I don't need a name to know how I feel about that game. I hate OU to the core of my being, but I'm grateful for them as an institution and fan base to help give me - us - that game. It's a magical event for me, win or lose. The losing just helps remind me how important the outcome is, and the winning feels like what heroin must feel like.

I don't care if we won that game 10 years in a row. I'd want to beat those mfs just as bad in the 11th year. And losing multiple years in a row is simply devastating in a way no other game compares to.

They're obviously not on Georgia's level, but they looked pretty elevated last year against the Bulldogs. I thought they were going to pull it off.

And they'll always have that win over Cumberland. I remember reading about that as a kid.

Nobody is more of a traditionalist than me but LOL at acting like Clean Old Fashioned Hate is even a real thing. It didn't even exist until the AJC had a contest in the 2000s for fans to vote on coming up with a nickname for the game.

I don’t care what they call it one way or the other, but that’s incorrect. An author named Bill Cromartie coined the term in 1977 when he published a book by the same name about the rivalry.

But it's catchy. I like it. Not every tradition has to be from pre WWII to be a thing.

Holy shite, this couldn't be more incorrect. It's not even in the vicinity of accurate.

Imagine sabans bama squads. Now imagine someone went down to the local public park and saw some normal dudes tossing the ball around one afternoon. Now imagine sabans bama team played an actual football game against those Joe blows from the park. That's what that Cumberland game was. Sure the score itself is ridiculous but that was a legit football team (back in those days they were good occasionally) playing against nobodies, many of which were not even actual football players. All because tech was so embarrassed that Cumberland had previously beaten tech in baseball. Just shows they've had an inferiority problem for quite some time.

Maybe but nobody in the state ever called it that until it won the AJC poll almost 30 years later

You are a lot more emotionally invested than I am in that story. To me it was a hilarious story I read about as a kid, then heard multiple times over the years. The highlight was the play where the QB and running back mishandled the ball in some way, so it's lying on the ground in the backfield, and both of them basically said, "You pick it up." "I'm not going to pick it up. YOU pick it up!" And then Tech grabbed it and ran it in for another score.

It's one of those records that will never be beaten. I don't really care that it's Georgia Tech that was involved, but I acknowledge that's the case.

Look, I get it. Ask me about OU's 47 game winning streak. I'll sound similarly whiny about it. You won't care, because you don't have any strong feelings about the Sooners. So I'm not saying I'm better than you. I'm the same as you in terms of your emotions around it. I just don't have the same emotions about this specific thing.

No one here is interested in OU. It’s hard at times to even remember they are actually in the SEC. Like Missouri

naming rivalry games is dumb . and its even worse when people on this board talk about playing their rival and abbreviate the name of it .

for example
dsor
cofh
tsio
and the worst one twlocp

The Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is classic. A perfect description for a week of partying at the beach.

I will never refer to it as anything but “clean, ol’ fashioned hate.” Same as UF-UGA will always be “the world’s largest outdoor cocktail party.”

This is the correct answer

What will they try next, rename the Egg Bowl as the Cal - Maine Bowl?

Hes just jealous that LSU doesn't even have a true rival unless you count the "magnolia bowl". I can understand why he'd be salty that we have such cool names for ours.
