I'm agreeing that an injury can help a team in some cases, in the case you cited that was the same as the Georgia QB injury.
The injury helps the team bc you have depth. Which provides substantial proof that depth is a part of the game. Depth is how you have great teams. If you can’t overcome injuries — you aren’t the better team. How could you be the better team if you didn’t win the game?? We didn’t have Percy Harvin when we beat y’all in Atlanta in 08 but our overall team was better than Bama’s so we won the game. If you had a better overall team than UGA — you would’ve won despite the injury to your WRs.
If you had recruited as well as you have in the past; you’d have a freshman Davonte Smith to go to. A Waddel. A Julio Jones. You DID NOT have the depth that other Bama teams have. And therefore weren’t a better team than UGA. This isn’t a video game. Everyone gets injuries. If you can’t overcome them — YOU ARENT THE BETTER TEAM. End of story.

Saban even said himself that Georgia kick Bama’s in the 4th
They did. It's a lot easier without Williams, Metchie, and 5 other staters.

True, but not many lose 7 starters including receivers with 1600 and 1150 yards with all but one coming late in the year or in the NC game itself.

I didn't say Bama was the better team at the NC game. Bama was down 7 starters, so the team was different than it would have been without those injuries. There were better than Georgia when the teams were more equal in injured players out.

You didn't play the same team the second time around.

quote:Depth is about being able to play and win football games with more than just your starters. UGA rotates guys at every position to build depth through experience, so when the injuries and attrition inevitably happen, we aren’t a shell of a team.
No, it isn't. It's about the difference in a team not having players who are injured vs not having them.
When you talk about injuries, you are talking about depth, because you are saying that your lack of depth is responsible for you losing when certain starters are unavailable. These two things are connected. If you had better depth, you wouldn’t rely so much on the starters that were missing. When you complain about missing a couple of WRs, you are really saying that you didn’t have depth to make up for that lack of production.
That’s why some of us are saying UGA had the better overall team, because when our starters go down, we send in the next man up and win games. When Bama had starters go down, they lost and then complained about it, as if they didn’t recruit the best players in the country to step in in such a moment.

But we wouldn’t be having this convo if Bama won the game despite losing starters. Bama has lost plenty of key starters and won natties. If Bama was the better overall team they’d lose starters and win the game. Period. If you can’t win bc of some injuries you clearly aren’t the better team.
