And back in the 90s and early 2000s, it was far easier in the SECW. What's your point?

These things are cyclical.

Our schedule looks laughably easy on paper.

TL:DR - UGA was a top 5 offense in the nation last year, and they return almost completely intact. There is no solid evidence supporting Smokeone's position.

All of the advanced metrics disagree with your assessment. Ratings and supporting data are calculated from the results of non-garbage possessions in FBS vs. FBS games:

Offense Fremeau Efficiency Index ratings (OFEI) represent the per-possession scoring advantage each offense would be expected to have on a neutral field against an average opponent:

UGA - 1.58 - 3rd overall
Bama - 1.70 - 2nd overall
Tenn - 1.14 - 6th overall

Touchdown rate (OTD) is the percentage of offensive drives that result in a touchdown:

UGA - 42.2% - 4th overall
Bama - 40.6% - 9th overall
Tenn - 37.9% - 16th overall

Busted drive rate (OBD) is the percentage of offensive drives that gain zero or negative yards:

UGA - 3.9% - 3rd overall
Bama - 10.5% - 50th overall
Tenn - 9.8% - 41st overall

Turnover rate (OTO) is the percentage of offensive drives that end with an interception or fumble:

UGA - 6.3% - 5th overall
Bama - 7.7% - 19th overall
Tenn - 8.3% - 29th overall

Definitely a totally manageable schedule

Possible ranked opponents

Oregon
South Carolina
Auburn
Florida
Tennessee
Mississippi State
Kentucky

3 of those being road games

I disagree and think more than 1 of those teams will be ranked at either the time of playing or end of season (or both).

It's not UGAs fault that TN/ Auburn and UF are terrible ( although TN is looking more respectable at least)

Maybe these schools should stop making horrific hiring decisions.

When you hire out of ULL and Boise you get what you deserve

If we're just talking SECCG... nobody should sweat UGA. They are what, 3-6 since 1992??

With a schedule like that, the Dogs are also likely to reach Atlanta without significant injuries.

Like it or not, that helps their chance of winning the game.

Yes. Very weak schedule. I would normally say MState has the best shot to beat us because of a lot of new DBs, but we have them late in the season, so our young guys will have time to get some experience.

They might have two teams barely in the top 25 on that schedule by season’s end, probably one.

I am thinking Oregon, Kentucky and Tennessee will be in the top 25. But tossing out Oregon because they are OOC, yes. Two seems to be the ceiling.

If you take out Kirby's first year, we've only lost two SEC East games in the last half decade. It's mostly because we kick so much arse in the East, but it's also a product of crappy recruiting to borderline top 10 recruiting at best in the East outside of UGA.

I'm not at all worried about UF for this year. They aren't making any real consistent noise on the recruiting trail either. UT isn't there yet either, but I think they will give us a real run for our money in 2023...and maybe even this year..because a lot of teams will be motivated to take us out. I think UT's has the best chance anyway in doing it against us...and they are at least recruiting better than UF for 2023

But alas, the game is in Athens this year, Smokies

As for the rest of the East, ehhh just wake me when something actually happens.
