It actually is a great story. Reminds me of Kyle Trask stuck behind Feliepe Franks comes on to lift Florida to an SEC East title.

in our case, we lost almost the entire offense.
But didn't you just say this?
but look at what happened when UGA played the only two top tier offensive teams with Stetson last year. They got demolished both times. Same thing will happen this year.
Apparently last year holds true for all games going forward. So tell us...what happened to Alabama? Are you now saying that teams get better and worse from year to year? Shocking, I tell you. Shocking!

Keep winning Georgia.
The pain will likely come when you face Bama unfortunately. But what's new?
Enjoy the run while it lasts.

Clearly things change from year to year based on different factors, but the most important factor is how many players a team loses to the nfl or eligibility running out.
In our case, we lost most of our offense. In UGA's case, they lost a lot of their secondary iirc, and y'alls best WR. An exceptionally low turnover, so many of the same players as 2020.
I am also not claiming that Bama 2021's offense is as good as their 2020 offense, only that they are still a top tier offense in CFB.
Pretty simple stuff here, guy.

I get that, and we have added Brock Bowers, Adonai Mitchell and will get back 2 or three of our receivers back this week. Bennett has clearly improved from last season and his TD to INT ratio shows this. Yet you point to last seasons results. Why do different players affect Alabama but do not affect Georgia?
quote:So with an extra years experience they could not improve? Are you now saying players do not improve from a previous year? You are a very confusing person as you seem to have faulty logic and contradict yourself.

quote:I wouldn't argue that point. But you seem to be arguing that our defense and offense is the same as last year. I mean it ws you who said to look to last years results with Bennett and the same thing would happen....even though so far our offense and defense looks better than thye did last year, and Alabama's offense and defense looks worse.

Depends. We really haven't seen this Georgia defense play an offense that anyone would consider elite yet. This is how UGA's FBS opponents average total offensive rank right now is 80th. They schedule is weak; when you pull Kentucky out of the lineup, this schedule from top to bottom is a .500 group.
A funny thing happens when you pull the UGA game off their schedules. Suddenly some of them become top 20 offenses.

It’s kinda hard for them to lose when no body can score on them.

This is a team that has faced 0 adversity thus far, and likely won't until they reach the postseason. That's not the first time you want to be seriously tested.
Likewise, when we talk about not being tested, you have to talk about what that actually looks like and what our defense would do differently compared to what they've done already.
We've got big, fast bodies swarming to the ball and making good, open field tackles. The leaders are communicating plays and getting the defense in the right position on every play. Our DL does that shift that makes it difficult for the opposing team's OL to block (and has gotten a lot of false starts from it, too). We get a lot of pressure on the QBs, even the mobile ones, and we're able to do it without bringing the house, meaning that we leave enough guys to cut down on the options a QB has to throw to. Our secondary has been a relative weak spot for us but they are good enough on most plays to prevent explosive plays. We also have depth at most positions, so wearing us out isn't going to be easy.
Our defense has been able to shut down good QBs, good RBs, and good WRs/TEs so far this season, even if those players weren't complimented by a full team elite talent, but few teams are going to have that while also executing as they should.
In addition, we've scored 30+ points every game so far to compliment our elite defensive effort. Even if we come up against a team that will score 30+ against our defense (unlikely), we should be able to hang in there.
No we aren't going to blow out every opponent we face (like Ohio State), but to act as if UGA is a paper tiger because of the teams we have faced ignores the talent, the depth, and the scheme we have on defense. There is just something different about our defense when you watch them play that isn't there with other good or decent defenses out there this season.

you serious? Alabama's 2021 offense has issues, mostly with consistency. Florida had a really really good offense last year when healthy. They gave Alabama all they wanted in the SECCG. I mean you could argue that 2021 Alabama is better than 2020 Florida, but to say you're not sure it's close is silly.

There's some truth in this, but offenses that are not ranked in the top 100 aren't going to magically become great just because UGA's game against them disappears.
UGA's defense--which is amazing, best in the country IMO--has something to do with those numbers. But we're 9 weeks into a season now. The numbers are more than just an occasional outlier. While a couple of these offenses are pretty good many of them are quite bad, UGA's defense notwithstanding.

Good points all. The testing that we haven't seen from Georgia is the offense put in a place where it has to win the game. Defense is outstanding, but you don't want to find out for the first time in the postseason whether your offense can finish out a game.
Yes, Georgia's offense has scored 30+ points in every game since Clemson, but they were also far more talented than all of those opponents. They did face some decent, if not amazing, defenses. Several of their opponents have top 40 defenses. But the offense hasn't been really called on to win games. Even against Clemson, UGA didn't score in the 4th quarter.
Georgia is not a paper tiger. They remind me of Iowa, but with fast, talented players. I think they are the best team in the country right now. But we really don't know how the Georgia offense will respond when the game is on the line and it's up to them to win it.

I don't see why. Even Trent fricking Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring.

And yet the very statistics that were used say otherwise.
quote:Some are and some are not. that's true of any team in any given year is it not? I mean we can pick a defense 2020 Alabama or 2019 LSU out and say they are really bad without adding LSU or Alabama's game into the statistics.

Some of the teams they played had good defenses and some did not. That's your point?

Good point. Along with:

Jim McMahon
Mark Rypien
Joe Theisman
Brad Johnson

I mean some were pretty good college QBs but most were average at best pro QBs.
Good catch!
