Far longer than 2017. Probably ever since uga rejected him, which forced him to go to Georgia college instead.
I figured he either lived here or
grew up in Georgia.

Here's another fun fact...down through the years, especially recently, most racial situations at Ole Miss were caused by students who were from GEORGIA or Texas...
Most of the hate crimes in WWII were caused by the Germans or Missippians.
FUN FACT

And he's saying most of the hate crimes at Ole Miss in the modern era are committed by folks from Georgia. In fact, one involved the Georgia state flag being tied in a noose around the James Meredith statue. Wonder how that got there?

I could have gone to UGA, I had the grades, SAT, extra curricular stuff to go. I even had a partial scholarship offer. Scholarship to GC and a better school for my original plan sent me to GC. I almost accepted an offer to GaTech but my math would have required more work than I wanted to put in it. The UGA fencing coach wanted me to transfer there a couple of times. Emmanuel College was also an option but 1 visit convinced me I wouldn’t fit in.
All in all I’m happy with my choice. GC (now GCSU) had some of the most challenging course work I ever saw including transit classes at UT and Augusta State. I met my wife of the last 20 something years and the mother of my child there. The best part of UGA was their whores and I partook of enough of them to honestly not miss out.

Used Georgia as a home base from 1988-2018. My parents still have a farm in Georgia. In the 90s before HOPE getting into UGA wasn’t very hard. 1100 SAT, 3.8 GPA and nice bullet point extra curricular stuff usually got you in.

GC gave me a scholarship and I didn’t want to be a vet. It’s not complicated. Getting into UGA wasn’t a big deal. Hell you could have gotten in back then.

You mean 1990, 1991, & 1992?

93 and 94 the years I college shopping. In 94 HOPE paid your way but you had to front the money and get reimbursed. Kids getting to go for “free” and over applying didn’t really start til 96ish. That was about the time the college system became a university system and school names were changed. Pretty much ruined the value of an education in Ga by watering down classes with folks that did not belong in college. Turned schools from centers of higher learning to money-making centers.

I dont recall "fronting the money"
In 94, there was an income cap for qualification that was lifted in 96. They may have backdated payouts for the prior year when the income cap was lifted.
In '96, it was open to everyone with the grades.

That's not my experience at all.
As you said, it took ivy league kids and kept them in the home state at UGA and GT. The qualifications for acceptance got much tougher at 93. Even more so in 96.
I was accepted into Terry as a freshman. Maybe that's an explanation why I think you couldnt be more wrong. But I saw the quality of the average student go up.
The difference i saw in the 90s was pressure from the student body to get Bs or better while in college. That pressure was placed on the faculty. Most faculty didnt budge. Some of the less tenured teachers caved.
