UF fans, question about your season this year compared to our 2002 season

Our 2002 game against UF is still very widely talked about as one of the biggest screw ups in UGA history. We were 8-0 going in and lost, but ended up 13-1, SEC and Sugar Bowl champs, and finished #3. For discussion's sake let's say UF goes to the Sugar Bowl and also finishes in the top 3. Very similar seasons, and in both cases the lone loss will have knocked the other team out of the title. However, at least in our season we still won the SEC which UF can't do this year.

My question is..it seems like outside of the normal discussion about the game that will pop up from time to time on here, yall don't seem that ate up about it. Somewhat of a lack of butthurt, if you will. Why is that? I have 2 theories:

1)With us, that was the best team we'd had in 20 years, whereas with yall this year you have had loads of recent success

2)Our game had a signature, defining moment that had nothing to do with UF, that being our receiver dropped a potential tying TD late in the game. This game didn't have that same type of situation.

Thoughts? How do you think UF fans will view this year and this game 5, 10, 15 years down the road? Will it be "I can't believe we lost a title shot because of damn georgia", or "who cares, we had a great season and won the sugar bowl"? In UGA circles, it is just kind of known to never speak of the 02 game. For some reason I don't see it being that big a deal to yall.

I think it helps that UF was expected to be dog shite this year.

I think that's the big thing.

So when you were praying to win 8 games, and then suddenly go 11-1, yeah it still sucks to lose to a rival, especially the way UF gave it away, but it puts things in perspective.

Especially with how hard the team has fought this year. Florida is a year early. They won big games with toughness and luck. The sting of losses is almost always worse because of the expectations tied to the games, and honestly, I think UF fans were just too fricking surprised by our record to really have high expectations for the UGA game, which most of us thought we would lose at the start of the season.

Just a theory.

I'm actually not even 100% sure. I feel like it really should bother me more, but... such is life.

Very happy with 11-1 and a Sugar Bowl right now. Probably end 12-1 and #2 in the country. Not too fricking shabby for a team that can barely catch and chew gum at the same time.

That, and you've won a few NCs recently so you guys are obsessing about it.

That is it. Part #1 and part that we exceeded expectations. We have had a lot of success against you lately, so I think that helps too.
FWIW, I was trying to be butthurt and none of the other Gator fans would join me.

Also, I am mostly pissed at Kiffin's retarded arse and any dumb arse mofo who said he was anything but shite!

IMO "I cannot believe we got to the Sugar Bowl" Remember how this season started, UF had trouble with every OOC opponent except FSU.

I think for the most part you answered the question. We are only a few years removed from 2 national titles and this season was a welcome surprise. It sucks that with the resume the team put together they don't get to play for a title, but it is what it is. I think most are confident in Muschamp leading the team to a championship in the very near future.

This season has been a complete suprise to me. Hell I would have been happy with 8 wins. Each of the last three games the offense made me feel as if we would blow chunks in Tallahassee. Then when Uf pulled it off in such a fashion, total suprise. BCSCG...no we're not there yet talent wise.

But watch out next year.

I'd say Reed fumbling right before scoring a TD is pretty similar.

But that play was a result of uga doing something and stripping the ball out. Great play by the defense. 02 wasn't anything to do with uf on that play, it was a wide open post route that we just dropped.

As others have said, we so far exceeded all reasonable expectations this year that there's no real feeling that we let it slip away, even though we kind of did. Muschamp is currently playing with house money and frankly we should be better in the next few years. That's how I feel about it anyway.

Florida waaaaay exceeded expectations.

Even at 11 wins for only the 5th (I think) time in school history, most Florida fans could rattle off a dozen or so past teams that were "better" than this one.

Florida literally had 2 fumbles in the game that Georgia didn't even come close to causing. They just dropped the ball.

The whole game was a giant UF cluster frick. So to say 2002 UGA is different isn't really fair, because they were the same. UF played very hard in 2002 just like UGA in 2012, and UF would not have won without giant UGA mistakes, similar to UF vs UGA 2012.

If this had been a national championship type season, I think we'd all be crying more, but as is, the season was sweet enough to not let one loss make us bitter I think.

Especially since we got to shut up UT, LSU, and FSU all in the same season. It's not like UGA fans have been talking much trash either.

Well....count me as one who wasnt surprised by our success this year and I felt since July/August we would be a 10-2 or 11-1 team....I really did. I based it on the belief that our defense would be rock solid and our OL improved. The only real question I had was thbe run game and wondering how we could run the ball well. To me Gillislee was a surprise somewhat...I knew from his previous three years that he had great vision and quick straight ahead bursts...but he lacked the size and bulk to power run the ball? He showed the dedication he had early on and erased my one concern. He obviously worked hard as hell in the offseason to get stronger. He is still somewhat smaller...but his heart is huge. He had never been an every down back for us and was always a backup and in 2011 rarely used except special teams (thanks Cheeseburger Charlie).

As far as the UGA game this year....it hurt...but in the back of my mind I was afraid the big game after big game would take some starch out of us and UGA had its back to the wall with one loss. I am not going mention easy schedule (oops) but UGA beat us Im not 20 yrs old....I have been through a LOT of WLOCP games in my life....so I cant let it bother me for more than an hour or so.

We had very low expectations this year. 11-1 Is amazing compared to where I thought we'd be.

Um, Jordan Reed fumbling at the 4 yard line doesn't count?

This year was such a great success, in my opinion.

Also, 2002 Florida was terrible. 2012 Georgia is a pretty good team.

Even with having beaten LSU and USCe prior to the game, I still didn't feel like the Gators were a NC contender at the time so it didn't feel as bad. But looking back to it now and seeing what could have been, it's starting to hit me harder.
