Like I said we shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly. We bobbled a snap on a chip-shot FG, fumbled, and the had a miscommunication on what play was called so Guice ran into a pile instead of where the play was designed to go for an easy TD around the left side.

But back to the point you originally made. You were saying that this year's defensive starters would be good based on their performance in the LSU game. I am just pointing out that may not be a good measuring stick for you to use.

LSU had the following drives on that defense (plays/yards): 12/80, 11/63, 10/73, 12/79, and 13/74. On another drive we started at the LSU 25 and punted from your 44, so one first down from a long FG try. Self-inflicted wounds aside, LSU had no trouble moving the ball at all, and I wouldn't feel overly confident in that defense.

Traditionally we have been strong at DT, ILB, and CB. This year we are thin there, but much stronger at DE, OLB, and S. Rather than having a smothering secondary that helps the pass rush, we've retooled the defense under Collins to build a feisty pass rush that should help out the young secondary (most of our recruits are insane athletes but less polished than we've been accustomed to). Marcell Harris is so much fricking better now than he was under Champ, it's night and day. Getting him back for his senior year is huge.

I noticed you're listing K-Mac and Tuttle and some of those other 5 stars as starters on your DL, but it's not like any of them have done shite in the conference. Out of shape, injured, step up in competition - whatever the case may be. I'll take a 3 star Zuniga who led the conference in sacks for half the year against a 5-star JAG with diva issues.

Florida got shredded by every team that they played last year with an offensive pulse. Blown out in 2 out of the last 3 games to end the season and haven't recruited nearly as well since McElwain took over.

-38 unanswered points to Tennessee
-Blown out by Arkansas
-Blown out by Florida St.
-Blown out by Alabama.

Tuttle has had serious season ending injuries during both his Freshman and sophmore seasons. He's easily the most talented DT on the team when healthy. I agree that McKenzie hasn't lived up to his ranking through his first 2 years in Knoxville though. To his credit, he was playing the best football of his career until last years season ending injury. Both helped completely stonewall Florida's offense in the 2nd half though to be fair. Neither are Diva's FTR. So you're info is bad there.

A 3* hand picked by Randy Shannon out of Miami-Dade is not to be confused with a typical 3*.

No not really. Especially once CEO took over and fired Cam as OC replacing him with Ensminger.

LSU had the most explosive "O" in the SEC last year in regards to YPP. Believe Etling's YPA was 8.5 with Ensminger as OC.

There are some good 3 stars out there. If a kid doesn't camp much, he is not going to get the high stars. Honey Badger was a 3 star. A lot of elite players aren't correctly ranked.

Everyone gets good 3* athletes out of South Florida these days. Not overly impressive by any means.

Richt has went down to Miami and crushed it in recruiting. Jimbo continues to crush it in Tallahasee. There is no question in my mind that UF has the worst recruiter out of the Big 3 programs in the state of Florida.

Even in July, Florida should never have a class ranked #56th in the country and #12 in the SEC after back to back SECCG appearances. Florida recruits itself and this guy looks like he's not even trying half the time.

I know a lot of UF fans are concerned with his recruiting and I think that's a fair critique. You guys hadn't had a class finish outside of the top 10 in over a decade and McElwain comes in and hasn't had a class inside the top 10 since he took over. He's the first HC in years at UF to have had a class finish outside of the top 20.

The next 2 years in his tenure are going to say a lot about him as a HC as the composition of your roster changes from Muschamps to his own. I've never seen UF take as many mid to low 3 star players in my life like what he has been doing since he got there.

3 star linebacker David Reese- Freshman All SEC

3 star linebacker Vosean Joseph- led team in tackles in last 4 games of season, game changer hit on LSU QB Danny Etling

3 star linebacker Kylan Johnson- 41 tackles and a sack as a reserve last year

Not too bad for a bunch of 3 stars

Florida finished with a higher ranked recruiting class than Miami last year

Its fricking July

Finsihed 25th in half a season after inheriting the 108th ranked class from Muschamp in December, 12th, and 10th last year.

Florida has more talent on offense than Muschamp could ever dream of accumulating during his tenure at UF. The recruiting is fine. He just needs a quarterback.

Thanks for that breakdown, still they don't seem to be the typical "scary" UF lbers I'm used to.

Richt is in another stratosphere as a recruiter than McElwain has shown to be through out their careers. Jimbo certainly is as well.

And you're coming off back to back appearances to the SECCG with almost nothing to show for it in terms of hype and recruiting. One of your last 4* players just decommitted yesterday. Not terrible classes by any means, but far from what Florida is capable of.

21st (2015), 12th (2016) and 11th (2017)

Classes from 2017-2007 :
2014: 9
2013: 3
2012: 4
2011: 11
2010: 1
2009: 9
2008: 6
2007: 1

Outside of the 2011 class all of his classes have been the 3 worst recruiting classes for UF in the last decade.

We'll see what happens.

Can some Gators explain to me why there is such an expectation that your D will continue to be dominant this season?

The worst defense UF had in the last 25 years was the 2007 defense and they weren't THAT bad.

You guys act like UF didn't play defense before Muschamp showed up.

11-1 in the last 12 games, that's how it stacks up.

I like to look at it as a glass half full.
Uf lost to good teams FSU and Bama.

UT lost to Muschamp (for the 5th time in a row) and Vandy, to miss out on yet another SECCG.

When was the last one for UT? It's been so long.

True. You could have lost to Georgia Southern or last years Arkansas.

And to think, UT has lost to the guy who lost to Georgia Southern 5 times in a row. Embarrassing
