Yup, Similar. My mom would sometimes tell me, "Go get me your daddy's belt". That usually wasn't to bad and survivable.
It was when she would say, "I'm going to have to tell your father about this". That's when I'd get chills and lock up. Dad would come home hot and tired, and mom would fairly tell him about my shenanigans, oh boy would I get it. Kind of set a boundary not to push.

Boomers are the very worst generation so far.
They left Gen X to themselves which is why Gen X is so independent.
Boomers still hanging on refusing to get the hell out of the way. First generation to leave the next worse off. Their inherent selfishness seems to know no end.
