My response is this....some coaches do well as an assistant and fit well into a particular program. Sometimes, especially in college fb, a great assistant does not always make a great head coach and also might not be a great fit for that particular university. Happens all the time in both football and all Olympics sports across the board. Coach Mac was not a good fit. Trust me. Florida's athletic teams in all other sports are very successful with tremendous student-athletes that love being Gators. Its going to be a rebuilding process on the football side of things but I really think that Mac was just a mediocre coach--not bad and not great. That just doesn't work at Florida nor many other SEC schools. I pull for all the SEC schools to be great btw....

Too many palm trees?

Too close to the ocean?

3 straight years of 100+ ranked offenses with a weakening defense?

What do you think is out of whack?

If your hypothesis is correct then, why are all the other programs at UF doing so well?

FL will never be content because there will never be another Spurrier. Urban had a great stint there but even he stepped down rather than deal with the BS.

You think it's normal for a coach to walk away from his buyout without a fight mid season? Unless it comes out that he killed a hooker, he's making a statement that your university is not a good place to work and he's happy to be leaving.

Urban stepped down because he didn't want to deal with Saban being #1 in the conference. He won more national titles in 6 years than Spurrier won in 12.

I don't think it happens often. I think he gave up and we lost confidence in him. Seemed pretty mutual and the result leads to that conclusion.

Not everything has to be some giant conspiracy.

Yet the first coach to come out of any gator fans mouth is Spurrier.

That's not true unless you don't believe this Florida fan.

What we won't be content with is an offense in the 100s year after year after hiring a guy that said he could win with his mutt dog at QB.

He just needed to show offensive improvement year over year and not be a total tool in pressers. He failed about both.

It was time for him to go. I think he was losing his mind personally.

From what I know about Urban stepping down...it isn't what people think. This from knowing a few inside the department at the time. It wasn't because of the stress of Florida football ....I'll leave it at that.

I think you were asking me LSUwag about why other programs at Florida do well? I think its because of Jeremy Foley, who had a tremendous passion for the Olympic Sports. I believe he hired most if not all of his olympic sports coaches and would show up to all athletic sporting events. Jeremy started in the ticketing office wayyyy back in the day and worked his way up the food chain. He knew Florida athletics backwards and forwards. I also think that the SEC is a fantastic conference with all schools being tremendous with tremendous programs.
