If you find out why please let us Bama fans know. Reports coming out of scrimmages were Simpson was out performing him. Those reports were consistent throughout fall. Then, when Milroe totally started $hitting his pants during the second half of the season and Milroe wasnt even benched for ONE series, something didn't add up. Still doesn't
Couple reasons. Milroe was the incumbant starter who had finished 6th in Heisman balloting the previous season. He had the most raw athletic talent of any Alabama quarterback in years, maybe ever. When he was on he was unstoppable, the best player in the country. He could take over a game and win it. Conversely he could also single handedly lose a game. Coaches by nature think they can mold and “fix”players. That is what they do. They kept him in because of his potential. The coaches would tell themselves he would get it together on the next series. Ok, maybe the next. Or the next. shite… the game is over.
I think that the reason Milroe regressed so much last season was that he wasn’t capable of grasping a new offense in one season. He struggled enough at times the previous year when he got off script, in an offense that he had years to learn. Milroe had the most talent and potential. What he lacked was the ability to adjust or deal with adversity. Even so, again refering to coaches believing they can fix a players flaws, he was the 4th quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft.
That is why.

Hewas outplayed by Simpson in last falls camp and scrimmages. He played like dog $hit in enough games last season he should have been pulled out of several games. Yet the guy who this year is having a Heisman season sat the bench. Ty just didn't wake up this season and become this good. There was a lot of lockeroom bullsh*t going on that DeBoer just chose not to handle. Ty got the shaft last season and im shocked he didnt transfer.

The second string quarterback is the most popular player at many schools.
I just went back and looked at the stats from the 2024 A-day game. Simpson was responsible for 102 yards of offense on 12 plays. Milroe was responsible for 108 yards of offense on 11 plays.
I don’t put any stock on the “insiders” who say how players compare in closed fall practices and scrimmages.
Last year in mop up duty, usually against lesser opponents, Simpson looked nothing like he does this year. In 6 games last season he had a 56% completion percentage and a rating of 112.1. This season in 5 games he has a rating of 174.7.
Maybe he looked great in scrimmages. But in actually games he played he did not jump off the screen. Maybe he had used up his good throws in fall camp.
Or maybe, he just made a jump with it being his second year under Deboer and a lot more stable roster that had another year of practice together.
If Simpson has a WTF game I expect you will begin grumbling that Mack or Russell should play.

The point is Milroe played bad enough during last season to be benched and the backup wasn't so bad that he shouldn't have been put in. As far as "insiders" my information came from a player who was on the team last season but transferred because he didn't like the way the staff handled the team. Believe what you will, I really dont care. But I KNOW last years team was a cluster f×ck sh*t show within and we all better be thankful Milroe left.

Wrong, I was just gland Milroe had moved. I did not care in Homer Simpson was the starting QB

I'm literally on record saying that he would be fine this season in the preseason, you can look up all my posts addressing Bama

Thanks! I will.
I don’t know how Simpson looked in practices last fall.
But I do know that posters here with an “inside source” have an atrocious track record when it comes to getting it right.
I also question accounts who have geographical location + logo/school in their username; especially supposed Alabama fans in Louisiana.
And what is the point? You want to fire Deboer over this? Because he wouldn’t bench Milroe? Saban was a pretty good coach. And he wouldn’t swap QBs until they just started handing the ball to the defense. When Saban did bench Milroe for Buchner and Simpson, Alabama damn near lost to South Florida. And suddenly, most Alabama fans thought Milroe was the right choice.
You had your insider sources telling you how good Simpson was before this year. I have my own two eyes that told me.
If you really want to see horrible quarterback play, just start playing musical quarterbacks. Just ask Auburn or Oklahoma fans.

There were players on the team from Louisiana, specifically going to HS with my kids and going to surrounding schools. I had the opportunity to speak to not only their parents but the players themselves.
Now. Its THEIR ACCOUNT, and IT DOESNT MEAN EVERY SINGLE PLAYER on last years team thought the same. Im just passing on inormation I was told DIRECTLY by a few players actually on the team, and who was in the lockerroom the entire season.
You dont have to believe me but its now starting to leak from people like Josh Pate and Finebaum (as of yesterday) that they're now being told how chaotic it was last year in the lockerroom. My guess is, years from now someone on the team will come out and give a public account of what was really going on. The truth always leaks out, it just takes longer.

I do, because I was there. He didn't look consistently better than Milroe.
Simpson has played exceptionally well though five starts — that doesn't mean that he was ready to be on the field last year or two years ago.
Some players do better when they sit on the bench, study the game, and mature.

Saban run the QB situation into the ground again and left Deboer to clean up the mess.

He didn't perform so bad in practice that he didn't deserve to go in when Milroe was soiling his pants and costing us games. Milroe played so bad in several games he should have been benched. Ty wasn't so far behind that it would have been worse to put him in. But thank God that time in Bama history is over. I couldn't have dealt with it again this year.

No reason to get into all of it again here, but DeBoer has a philosophy about pulling a QB regularly and how it will ruin him mentally.
I think if he thought he could've played Simpson at that point and never looked back (keeping him as a starter from then on), he would've, but they still needed Milroe for whatever reason.
No idea what was going on behind the scenes, but I heard all the various rumors. I'm sure the real truth was somewhere in the middle.

Here is how the recent Saban recruited quarterback have fared the last 5 years.
Ty Simpson - currently top 10 odds Heisman contender
Julian Sayin - currently top 10 odds Heisman contender
Jalen Milroe - 6th in heisman balloting, 4th QB taken in NFL draft
Bryce Young - Heisman winner
Mac Jones - Golden Arm, Unitas, and Manning award for top QB in college football.
Yeah, Saban really ran it into the ground.
It is truly remarkable what you can find here.

You have now shifted from the argument that Simpson was significantly better than Milroe last year to the narrative that he only trailed Milroe slightly.
As an Alabama fan I can say definitively the Alabama fan base is the most spoiled and entitled fan base in college football.

I’m pretty sure that Saban and DeBoer each feared a duvided team. Milroe was a cancer.
Yes, RW and Bernard were clearly frustrated at times last season, and others by the end of the season but many of the older guys were Milroe’s buddies. Surely we can all remember when several offensive players just coincidentally together had bad games when Milroe sat out the USF game in 2023

No, Im making the argument (and taking your view for arguments sake) that even if what you say was true it still wasn't a reason to not play him when Milroe went to sh*t.
But, I know for a fact (because I talked to them myself) there were receivers who felt that Simpson ran the offense better and should have started. They felt he had tbe better camp. A few of them eeven expressed it to DeBoer. Its telling that Burton, who was entering the 2024 NFL draft, had Simpson throw to him at his pro day rather than his starting QB. Ultimately, as time passes someone from the team will go public with what all went on that season and Sabans last season. Too much has leaked already to think its all fabricated.

Last year is done. Milroe is gone. Again, what are you looking to get out of this? Other than to drag Deboer?
Do we have a time machine? That would be cool.
With the portal, the first year of any coaching change is a shite show. So again, not sure what you expect to get from this Monday morning quarterbacking.

The topic came up so I discussed it. Its a message board, thats what theyre for.

Yes, just like he ran the QB situation into the ground during the Blake Sims years.
Posted on 10/9/25 at 6:09 pm to Shocco
Blake Sims started one season, 2014. He was 2nd team All-SEC. Alabama went 12-2 that season. They won the west and the SEC. They lost to Ohio State in the playoffs. He left Alabama with two national championship rings.
The only other schools thar can even compare to Alabama’s string of quarterbacks under Saban in the past 50 years are Oklahoma and USC.
Saying Saban ran the quarterback position into the ground multiple times at Alabama is message board genius worthy cringe.
