I guess.....if you've been no where else. You really should get out more. Bar scene is not even second, more likely fourth or fifth in the SEC alone. Some parts of the campus are nice (just wouldn't want to walk around worried about being robbed by a Bama player). I take it you've been to no other SEC campuses.

tuscaloosa has no character to it IMO. its just a strip of fast food restaurants and chain restaurants. Thr campus is pretty nice though and the strip is cool, but its middle of the pack when it comes to sec towns IMO. Its getting MUCH MUCH better than it used to be. the same can be said for Auburn.

One problem with Tuscaloosa and going to UA in general is the fact that you really only see one part of the city. There are really rough parts next to the University.
But.....
If you get out around the lake or north of the river its really nice. The Hillcrest area is also nice.
Most people only see the one part of Tuscaloosa. Y'all come down this year and I'll be sure to show you around.

deaux68 is right on target.
the hillcrest/taylorville area is nice. north of the river is NICE. downtown in most places has gotten very nice. the strip rules. bar/food scene rules all over tuscaloosa.
of course areas like holt/cottondale suck.. and there are a few places that are for sure ghetto like kenzie court *throws up west side symbol along with the batman symbol*

I mean, when you look at it, what SEC town does Tuscaloosa beat? Starkville and that's about it. Its on par with Auburn, and that's just basing it on the town, I've always thought Auburn had a better gameday experience.

These type threads are pointless.
I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, lived there 20 out of the 22 years of my life. It's not a big city, but the people that come on here bashing it are obviously looking for and are going to find reasons to bash it because they have a general dislike for all things Alabama.
The campus is sandwiched by Alberta and Westin, which are two run down areas which are inhabited by poorer people. The city doesn't spend money on these areas for that reason and development is avoided for that reason.
The money in Tuscaloosa lies south in Taylorville/Hillcrest and North around Northridge and North River. Ironically, if you go to either of those areas right now, it is where you'll find the most development. If you're looking for big houses or appealing properties, look there (homes on the Black Warrior and Lake Tuscaloosa).
And no, I'm not saying we're the best town or campus in the SEC. I'm saying when it comes to sports, why must we get the city involved and bash the hell out of those of us that call Tuscaloosa home instead of simply considering it a "college town."

I've always wanted to take a trip down to Baton Rouge and eat some crawfish, and throw down some abitas with some LSU fans.
Crawfish and abita are great, Baton Rouge and Lsu fans pretty much suck cock. I suggest going to Mobile and eating crawfish and drinking abita there. It is twice the city that Baton Rouge is. Baton Rouge is like a septic tank in the middle of a toxic waste dump. If you want to visit a city in Louisiana other than New Orleans, go to Lafayette.

I actually like T-town a lot, but that is the most untrue statement I've ever seen on the board (excluding anything from LuckyLee)

I'm 30 and I have lived in Tuscaloosa my whole life. Tuscaloosa is not a huge city by any means and we don't have a lot of stuff like some bigger cities do, but it has a down home type of feeling. Sure there are areas that used to be very nice but unfortunately are not that great anymore but that goes with any town in my opinion. We have our share of uneducated people but for the most part the residents here are not what people want to make them out to be. Tuscaloosa businesses and decision makers are bringing in more new businesses and cleaning up a lot of areas and renovating buildings especially in the downtown area that have not been used for years. Tuscaloosa is not a bad place to live nor a bad place to visit. If you come to Tuscaloosa and don't have something good to say about it then I think that first, your not being honest, and second, you're just looking for something to be wrong so you can bash a town.

deep South atmosphere
This statement I disagree with. There is no deep south atmosphere here unless you want to count the high school kids that want to act southern so they think that putting a rebel flag tag or sticker on their trucks does the trick. There is no deep south atmosphere because the days of the true southern gentleman are long gone. You want a deep south atmosphere, you're better to go to a smaller town where the people there are truly a close knit community.

No doubt we beat Miss State, Kentucky, Vandy, USC, Arkansas.
I actually think we are better than UT and Auburn. I have never been impressed with Auburn the night before a game and I've been at least 20 times. I hate Knoxville. The night life sucks. The tailgating sucks. The river is cool and that's about it. And talk about a run down city.
I would say UF, LSU, and Ole Miss are the only three that definitely have a better gameday atmosphere.

I couldn't agree more. I'd rather go to Starkville.

I couldn't disagree more. Although the stadium is utter crap and tailgating is non-existant, K-ville is a great town and an awesome night life.
