In 1983 you didn't have a political party trying to destroy the country to try to pin it on a sitting president, either. All while having the entire machinery of American media and academia supporting them.

As the OP asking about schools being in session until the tuition checks come in, I can confirm that I have heard this internally. Classes will go back online at some point once the students are past drop-add. Don't be surprised.

I was a former offensive lineman, although a very light one. Most of my peers were significantly overweight even as teens. You can still be relative healthy with a BMI over 35 but this puts you at ( I can’t remember if it’s 10x or 4x) but many more times more likely of dying from Covid -19. We were all covered with each other’s sweet and blood in my day and I can’t see a face shield stopping this shite. Also as you breathe hard, shout etc you produce microdroplets which if you have Covid 19 will result in it becomes airborne.
Then they are the issues of the coaches, trainers, staff etc. It just seems unlikely that everyone can practice and play games all over the Country without some outbreaks and likely fatalities. I am guessing that an outbreak may cancel a game or two but fatalities will kill the goose.
I think the same situation exist at UT, we drop my child off next week but I full expect I may be picking her up before October.

I suspect you are right. With all of the precautions we are taking, the fact is that you can't respond to each case by sending every class and instructor they were in contact with home for two weeks and expect that to be a sustainable model. It simply won't work. They will give up the experiment inside of two months.

Currently, through 6 months of this pandemic, there are 150 deaths in that aged group, or 1 in every 200,000
I think science is on the side of these 18-24 year old college football players

40% of 30,600,000 is 12,240,000
So 1 in 81,600 obese 18-24 year olds have died of covid-19

Your mistake here is assuming that 1 in 81,600 will not matter. Statistically, it may be insignificant to you. But computers won't make the decisions to shut things down. Human beings will. And you and I both know the squeaky wheels will be loud as ever the second this happens.

I've lived in Texas my entire life. I'd opine that it used to be the south, but no longer is (the state as a whole; obviously there are some places, especially in east Texas, that would still be considered "the south").
If Texas as a state really is part of the south, then Austin is definitely an outlier and I guess would indeed be home to the "Hippie U of the South". Whatever tf that means haha

The argument many are making is “one death is too much”. If true, football needed to be cancelled long before covid-19 came along
The argument is “until no deaths can be guaranteed we shouldn’t play”. Well, hate to tell you, even if covid-19 completely disappears that can never be guaranteed with football. Deaths already happen directly due to to the sport itself

Are you kidding? How about read the post I responded to. That is the post that’s irrelevant. Pointing out that a season wasn’t cancelled because a player had a heatstroke is irrelevant. The reason for the face shield is because we are in the middle of a pandemic? Did I really need to explain this?
