This may or may not signal the beginning of the end for Grant (I personally don't think it necessarily does; I really think all he needs to do to keep his job after this season is to make the tournament and they can still do that imo), but anyone saying that Lacey would already be in the NBA had he gone to another program is a fricking idiot.

This, all of it.

Gumps, whats the deal with Grant? Seems like he isn't really a players coach.

Transfers can become an epidemic. It may have made it's way into the Bama program.
Lacey is big, no doubt. But Gueye probably wasn't going to see the court too much with the Swede coming back healthy and I'm sure he knew it. I mean, he was a freaking joke on the basketball court. If others start leaving, then yea perhaps "epidemic" becomes more appropriate. But let's quit trying to sensationalize everythibg before then.

I definitely dont think the Gueye transfer was very detrimental. I would be more worried if Alabama saw a transfer from Pollard. The reason I said it could be an epidemic was mostly due to the nature of the transfer. Lacey told reporters that he was worried about the development of himself and the program.

Okay, I admit Lacey wouldn't have been in the NBA somewhere else. I just said that emotionally and trying to prove a point.

Yeah you're right. A guy who started every game and averaged over 30 minutes a game while chipping in 11 points a game is easily replaceable. That makes a ton of sense. We have guys all over our roster who will score that much. Okay

See my earlier post. Bill Battle didn't get to where he is in life by being stupid. You and I have better chances of being hired.

I don't think Bruce pearl is that into you.

Pearl is the best coach available out there. If (and I know that's a really big 'if') we were to fire Grant, shouldn't we go after the best available? Worked out pretty well in football.

I seem to remember hearing that about another coach around 6-7 years ago...

Hiring Bruce Pearl would be the administrative equivalent of thinking with your dick instead of your brain. Sexy as hell, and sure, you might get a lot of pleasure in the short term, but at some point you're going to ask yourself how in the hell did you get so fricked up.

I see where you're coming from but, I just think Bama has the history and the resources to be the 2nd best basketball team in this league. If not the best every year or so. Therefore, we should be hiring the best coach we can get. Amirite?

I can only hope this expedites the inevitable rather than provide excuses to prolong it.

No matter how much he dislikes Grant's style of play, this is a stupid move on Lacey's part.
Here were his options:
1. Transfer and sit out a year on the bench learning nothing and have one season of eligibility left
2. Stay at Alabama 2 more seasons as a guaranteed starter
3. Play a year, graduate, then transfer as a graduate student with immediate eligibility anywhere he wants to go
Option 2 and 3 are by far the best.

Bruce would fly to this job. Don't listen to that snitch.
Haven't we become desensitized to this yet as the annual transfer rate for D1 basketball players has been above 10% for quite a while now. 40% of college basketball players will transfer before their junior year.
saw this on gatorcountry:
Quote:
ESPN's Dave Telep, who has covered recruiting for 16 years, said the skyrocketing transfer rate has impacted high schools as well. He sees a connection with sports trends in general such as free agency and one-and-dones.
"The (college) transfer rate mimics the transfer rate in high schools and among AAU teams," he said. "As a society we've enabled this generation to go to the next opportunity. They haven't learned to fight through adversity. They just look for their next chance. All they're doing is mimicking what they see."

quote:Now that I think about it, this is pretty accurate...
Alabama is LSU just 2 years behind. We were saying the same thing when we had half of our recruits transfering out. We had no offense and we would just try to score 45 before the other team cause that's about all we were scoring...

He's not easily replaceable, but he's not irreplaceable either. Lacey was a good shooter but definitely has his flaws (defense, athleticism in general). Randolph finished last season well and he could be a much better player than Lacey if he builds off of that. Obasohan will get more playing time now obviously, and he has potential. This hurts, but I don't think this transfer is a death blow to Grant's tenure unless it leads to other transfers.
