I froze my arse off in Indy a year ago and swore I'd never go back. It'll have to be in Athens.

I'm in the south part, by Louisville. Not much better. Fun Fact - the Shawnee and Iroquois mostly hunted the Ohio Valley - because they were smart enough to see that the weather here sucks.
Louisville is on nobody's vacation list that is sane. I'll see you in Athens.

Devin’s father just a released a statement claiming he knows nothing of lawyers or press conferences that were reported from AJC. Either shitty reporting or the family may be back tracking...

The father added that he knows nothing of lawyers or press conferences in a report from the AJC following an announcement about a Thursday press conference to discuss legal action in the case.
Will there be legal action?
“No, Georgia is working with us … they are compensating us 100%,” he said.
It’s unclear what details will come from an expected press conference with the personal injury firm Go Big Injury Lawyers about the incident.

It's worse than Saul Goodman.
All Saul ever did was launder money for a drug cartel at the point of a gun.
This piece of shite exploited the death of his client for name recognition.
Gov. Brian Kemp should order an investigation into this a-hole and have him disbarred.

From that completely pointless presser their “attorney” had which did nothing, it seems like its backtracking.
Everything in that presser could have been more easily said in a statement release.

GA has mandatory testing law that says in all crashes resulting in death or serious injury, all drivers shall be tested. This includes deceased and surviving drivers. No warrant required.

I am specifically talking about tests done by the hospital as part of treatment, not samples taken as part of LE’s investigation. To get those records they will need a warrant.

They may not sue UGA or the driver but you can better believe this was a way to get UGA and driver's insurance company to the table to figure out a settlement.
If she was utilizing a university owned/leased vehicle they can go after university insurance policy
My guess is if she was expected to use university vehicles she would have to provide UGA proof of proper levels of insurance before she's allowed to use drive a UGA vehicle.
It then becomes a risk management issue at that university and they would be liable for damages.
It's also the driver's responsibility to make sure all passengers are following the law or wearing seat belts. Also, you are not allowed to use cell phones in vehicles while driving. So you can believe they are checking every possible avenue.

Well the driver is dead, so they'd be limited to the GA minimum liability coverage of $80k I believe (could be wrong on that number, but it's definitely not in the millions). Unless she paid for super duper coverage, which I doubt a freshly graduated 24 year old would do.
So if they don't sue UGA, and there's no real meat on the bones by suing the deceased driver, then who is it they sue?

Meh ... don't take it so hard like that. You're "connected" to this, somehow. I don't get it, but I don't have to either.
I would say this - in a completely friendly manner - prepare for heartbreak. Something is going to come out, once all the facts are known, that is going to disappoint you. That's just how these kind of things always work out. Four kids don't fly off the road, at 3:00 AM, without making bad decisions.
This is wise. These kids don't need to be saints for me to understand that whatever happened here was an absolute tragedy. Drunk or sober doesn't change that.
