Honestly, I don't think about the actual, factual events that involved Cam. But I am still in awe of the histrionics that erupted from the whole ATPB era.
National Championships, Heisman trophies, rogue boosters, Southern Baptist preachers, Danny freakin Sheridan and secret bagmen playing the role of Deep Throat
The whole thing was surreal. Even the memory of it seems like a weird dream. What was real and what was made up?

Oh yea, to the rest of this thread. As an Auburn fan I am very thankful for Cam, but on this boring Friday afternoon reading some of the insanity that still exits...again I thank you Cam Newton.

For instance: If the Yella Fella wanted to pay Cam Newton before he ever signed papers with Auburn, I'm not seeing a big deal. The only problem from a legal aspect would have been between Cam/Cecil and the IRS.

FBI was looking into Milton McGegor as well as Colonial Bank. Through bullshite rumors, those two got linked into the pay 4 play scheme with our athletic department, so the FBI started looking into illegal gambling payments or ATM withdrawals for players. It's in the chart above.

Paying a College Recruit to sign to a school is a Federal Crime. The FBI had to look into it because everyone in the Bammers Press was making noise about it. They found there was nothing to it before the NCAA.

That is what is still so hilarious about this. The FEDS got involved. If you think they can't find money when they are looking for it........speak up. You don't need to leave a name and number, they will find you.

Those were all the rumors that were leaked to the press from Womack and the SEC Offices. FBI had to look into them because of the Bama Press was spreading these leaks as facts. Nothing came of them and you notice Womack never got a sniff as Commisioner.

In my opinion, when Cecil admitted he was shopping Cam, whether he received payment or not, under the rules, Cam should have been ruled ineligible.
By the time all the evidence surfaced, Auburn was competing for the championship and Cam was the front runner for the Heisman. At that point, they decided to change the rules.
Why? It would have completely changed the end of that season. The timing was bad.

I think most people, including the NCAA, agree with you. However, the rules weren't written that way at the time so they couldn't (and shouldn't) have suspended him or ruled him ineligible. AU was not playing an "ineligible player" under the way the rules were written (they've since changed the rule) and after a 13 month investigation no money was found to have changed hands. Case closed.

All I have gathered from this is that Miss State and Mullen snitched on Cam and Auburn like they did with Ole Miss.
