Auburn - 2004, 2010 national champs.

You got to play for it to win it.

That said, y'all got rooked out of a chance to play for it.

Auburn may be a top15. Nowhere near top5.

Probably would be a top 10 and maybe even top 7 or 8. There is no doubt you have had some narrow misses and got robbed in 2004 (although nobody can say with certainty you would have won the game in 2004) Auburn has had some really good teams the last 20 years.

I’m failing to see where Clemson performed better against Bama during that stretch.
I am guessing in win %?

Now do the number of times they faced each other. Yes, Auburn beat Alabama more times, but they also faced them more times in the time frame.

LSU has plenty of trophies to display, but we also have more than our share of Auburn-level collapses.
Do we, really?

2008, followed a BCS title with Jared Lee throwing pick 6's every damn game; pulled out of the death spiral to win the Peach and finish 8-5.

No more true collapses until 2020-2021. We bitched about Miles losing his edge, but his last full season was 9-3, with a cupcake game cancelled (in other words, it would have been a 10 win season). We had a 20 season streak of going to a bowl, which was snapped with 2020.

You could argue swapping LSU & UGA

Don't see how you can argue swapping these two. His criteria is pretty solid and fair. LSU has 3 titles and we have 2. However, if we win this year, then things would change on the list next year, because one of their titles would drop off and we would add one.

Amazing that Auburn had more wins over Bama than Clemson did considering Alabama and Auburn play every year.

Do their records against Bama during that stretch as opposed to wins against Bama.

Would you like me to post each teams 3 or more loss seasons over that time frame? When LSU is good they're great. They also tend to be average to above average a lot of seasons.

Go ahead. I'll list LSU's championship seasons.

2003 - SECW Champ, SEC Champ, and BCS Champ

2005 - SECW Champ

2007 - SECW Champ, SEC Champ, and BCS Champ

2011 - SECW Champ, SEC Champ

2019 - SECW Champ, SEC Champ, and Playoff Champ

2022 - SECW Champ

I bolded the national championships for you.

How does OSU stack up?

How about you post top conference opponents in that time frame?

LSU faced Alabama, the undisputed #1 team, annually. Also Florida (2 BCS titles) and Auburn (a BCS title, another BCS appearance, and another undefeated season), every year. Then UGA, the #3 team, about half that stretch, including conference championships.

LSU is undoubteldy above us at the moment given the 20 year span include din the OP.

Next yera, even if we don't win it, we will still have a chance to pass them. Both would have 2 national titles and both would have 3 SEC titles (this is if we don't win this year. If we do then we'd have the edge there). At that point it'd essentially come down to wins/rankings/etc and I don't have that data but I have to think we'd stack up favorably there. We have a stinker in 2010 but other than that have bene rock solid while LSu has a few years of beign down.

LSU could throw a monkey wrench in that and win it all this year.

2003 - 3 losses
2008 - 5 losses
2009 - 4 losses
2012 - 3 losses
2013 - 3 losses
2014 - 5 losses
2015 - 3 losses
2016 - 4 losses
2017 - 4 losses
2018 - 3 losses
2019 GOAT
2020 - 5 losses
2021 - 7 losses
2022 - 4 losses

Compared to

2004 - 4 losses
2008 - 3 losses
2011 - 7 losses

13 of 20 years LSU have 3 or more losses and 8 of those are 4 or more losses.. So like I said. When they are good they're great but they also have a lot of average to above average.

And yes, they whipped Ohio State's arse.

2003 - 3 losses

LSU won a national title in 2003 going 12-1.

LSU and Georgia get a nod over Ohio State despite Ohio State having more wins due to Ohio State losing more big time games in blow out fashion than anyone.

Give credit to OSU for having easily the best win percentage but also have to slightly take it with a grain of salt when they get exposed almost yearly in the biggest games against the best teams.

So Ohio State and LSU each have 1 losing season in that time.

That's good.

LSU has 12 more seasons where they lost 3 or more games.

That's not ideal.

How about ranked opponents?

LSU has played 115 ranked opponents in those 20 seasons. That's 5 or 6 ranked opponents every season.

Ohio State has played 98. Pretty impressive. A lot of playoff games there.

How about quality of opponent within division and conference? Like, of the teams you have to play every year, or play in a conference championship, how good are they? How many conference championships and national championships do they have?

I'll go for LSU.

We've had to play Kirby Smart's Georgia team 3 times - 2018, 2019, and 2022. He's got:
-2 SEC Championships
-2 playoff national championships

We played Gene Chizik's Auburn every year from 2009-2012.
-1 SEC Championship
-1 BCS Championship

We played Urban Meyer's Florida team every year from 2005-2010.
-2 SEC Championships
-2 BCS Championships

And that leaves Nick Saban, who we've played at Alabama every year from 2007 till now.
-8 SEC Championships
-3 BCS Championships
-3 playoff national championships

How does OSU stack up to that?
