Oklahoma got hit pretty hard in the late 80's and Switzer was fired as a result. It took them over a decade to fully recover
That was partly due to moronic hiring (I'm looking at you John Blake).

Alabama was down for nearly 10
This was also partly due to moronic hiring (hello former coaches Fran, Price, and Shula)
One key to this for OSU will be who they hire and, if he is merely a transition coach, if they are willing to pay him to go away after 2 years so they can hire a big gun instead of trying to keep him for 5 as others have mistakenly done in the past.

I would not be surprised to see them lose 40+ schollies over 4 years, with a 4 year bowl ban and maybe even a TV ban (although with network contracts that is unlikely because it punishes an entire conference).
OSU is about to experience a rough next 10-15 years.

And AU can expect twice that because the NCAA does not like being made out to be Fools. OSU cut a deal with the NCAA to keep players eligible to play in the Sugar and now they have been shown that OSU covered up more infractions making the NCAA look like Fools. The NCAA will come down hard on AU because the AU officials have not been forthcoming to protect the football's team run to the BCSCG. The NCAA does not like being made a Fool, so get ready AU fans that day is coming.

Sweet baby Jesus.....will this shite never end. Please STFU until something actually happens regarding AU.
Hold your breath until the NCAA hammers us

I am not convinced that tOSU will get hit with hard sanctions.
Does anyone want to guess at sanctions:
Vacated Victories (Which Seasons)
Bowl Ban (how many years)
TV ban (will never happen)
Scholarships lost (how many total and how will this be spread).

You are a sad, lonely, old man. Is your neighbor going to get OU in trouble?

Similar to USC. Doubt they'll get the TV ban, but a postseason ban, probation, and scholly losses look likely

So your prediction is that AU will lose 80+ schollies over 8 years and have an 8 yr bowl ban with expected recovery time of 20-30 years? That would be the death penalty and it..is...not...happening.
AU may eventually get hit with some penalties, but they won't be as bad as what USC got and what OSU will get IMO.

I agree. I think this is the obvious reason that USC was hammered as well. It is only a matter of time before the hammer falls on Auburn too. The one thing that gives me pause admittedly about Auburn though is the NCAAs willingness to clear Cam so quickly (less than 24 hours) when he was suspended.

Who should Bama had hired instead of Fran, Price or Shula? What if Saban would not have been available, who could have turned Bama around?

Vacated Victories - at least 2 seasons ('09 & '10)
Bowl Ban - depends on what OSU self imposes. If they self impose for this year and next then I would imagine the NCAA agrees and gives a 2 year bowl ban. if they don't self impose beginning this year, then i would expect ncaa to give them 3 year bowl ban(look for tons of transfers)
TV Ban - ain't happening captain.
Scholarships lost - 36 over 3 years.

I respect your opinion, the NCAA has changed, but I still remember the M.Clarett fiasco and just do not believe they will truly hammer tOSU.
Vacated Victories (2010 EXCEPT the Sugar Bowl).
Bowl Ban - 1 Year.
Scholarships (5 per year for 3 years, 85 lowered to 82 (That is the most important number)

Butch Davis accepted the job when Fran was hired, but backed out b/c he was concerned about NCAA sanctions. Fran was not a bad hire on paper, but he was not cut out for the suffocation that comes with being the HC at a program the size of Bama.
Neuheisal wanted it when Price got it (and when DuBose got it). Too many on board didn't like him.
Mike Riley was close to accepting (some say he did but wife didn't want to go to Tuscaloosa) when Shula was hired. He was an asst in New Orleans at the time. His wife wanted to go back to Oregon State and they did.
There were options and Bama didn't take the right approach of "we'll do whatever it takes to get the right guy." They learned that lesson, thankfully, and we finally have the right guy at HC.

Fran was a good hire, Price was a misfit from the beginning... Shula was a very good hire and certainly served his school well under terrible circumstances.

I'll jump in a little.
OSU's sanctions go immediately down if the NCAA buys that Tressel was the only one who knew what was going on and was keeping quiet.
Maybe these are equal in the NCAA's mind, but tats for signed gear isn't the same to me as taking 300K from a booster/agent. All the stuff combined for OSU probably isn't gonna equal 50K in value (depending on the car thing).
If we're talking money, then that party in SoBe last year at LIV probably is more

It really all depends on what happens with the issue related to the cars and how closely that can be tied to the Athletic Department. If it is just tattoos and lying to the NCAA (assuming it was only Tressel that lied), it won't be as harsh as USC. If the cars angle pans out and the school is complicit, then it will be ugly.
