LeCounte or Stevens? Personal preference for LeCounte because the dude can just play but Stevens is a freak.

Jordan Battle is going to be cracking all kinds of lists by season's end too.

Stevens is a bit over rated, don't you think?

Glory Glory on Jocoby Stevens

quote:

What game were you watching? He wasn’t even the best player on his defense. Mississippi State commit Kaleb Oliver is obviously the Alpha of that team. I realize it’s only one game, but Stevens shy’s away contact, which is not a good trait for a safety prospect. Now if you want to argue Stevens as a 5-star WR, I may agree because he potential outside. But as a safety, color me unimpressed.

Nah.

We lead for 4-star strong safety Hamsah Nasirildeen out of North Carolina.

We have a commitment from 4-star Chadarius Townsend who will probably end up at safety.

Devon Hunter is still out there as well as Todd Harris.

We'll be fine.

2 extremely different players

Lecounte is a cover safety in a CB's body, very, very good coverage guy for a safety, not as good a guy in the box/rushing passer so little less versatility there vs. Stevens

Stevens is a do it all safety in a LB's body, high end tackler, plays in box and rushes QB a lot, not as good as a coverage safety like Lecounte

Stevens is not exceptional in coverage. He will be spectacular in a hybrid safety OLB role though. Very good against the run and pass rushing.

If he improves the cover skills he will be dynamite...

He looked pretty darn good against us!

I don't see why either has to be crowned, "Best". They are both excellent. I have never understood the fascination with asking other people their opinion, unless they are a scout or something. People who like LSU will say Stevens and people who like Georgia will say LeCount.

Stevens had every bit as good of a season last year as Delpit did in 2018, and probably a bit better.

Dude is an absolute stud and I hope he doesn’t opt out.

Okay. I hate to, but I have to admit, when we were talking Stevens I was thinking about Delpit.

I didn’t even know Stevens was a safety until earlier this year. He plays like a LB.

I like Stevens a lot, I wonder how he would look if he got down to about 215 to 220... Never been a huge fan of Lecounte

Now that I am putting the right player in my mind, I remember being disappointed when we didn't get him. Iirc, we really wanted him. No doubt he is a good player and will only get better. LSU always has a good secondary and they develop with the best of them.

Lecount really struggled his first year or two. he was always going for the big ESPN Highlight hits and not wrapping up his tackles. last season we saw him grow up....a lot. He began getting the big hits, but wrapping up better. He always seems to be around the ball and gets INTs from just being in the area. He really showed out against Baylor.

If memory serves me correctly LSU safety Grant Delpit won the Thorpe in '19 and he wasn't even the best safety on the team. Jacoby Stevens put together a more productive and better season.

It would appear he did not based on the award. They may be more qualified than you to proclaim “the best”.

I bet Jordan Battle is on this list by November. He will be the best safety in the SEC by the end of they year.
