I was under the impression that Arkansas offered *border states a discount that made it the same as in-state tuition. I know like 100 kids from my high school went, and they all said that. That might have been misinformation, or might have changed.
It's still the case. The border state tuition is slightly higher (a couple thousand dollars), but is thousands less than out-of-state.

i'm not sure how it works now but when I was there 10 years ago kids from bordering counties got a slight discount, some even full in-state. My county in Missouri bordered the state but my discount wasn't much at all. I think Texas schools probably got sweeter deals than MO or OK kids.
I mean it's a safety school for Texas kids, so the relief from parents living in a rich Dallas suburb that their kids won't be going to Quad C and living at home probably means they don't really care about the price.

I think it's a good thing to recruit DFW, a lot of really good schools here.

Which is a great policy. Oklahoma did the same thing for years with "legacy scholarships". I know that I was one of the first people not to be able to get automatic in-state tuition, even though my mom is a Sooner. Something about how it's racist since 50 years ago it was harder for black people to go to college or something. I mean yeah it sucks about all those racist ideas from Mississippi were pervasive across the country, and it isn't 100% fair, but strengthening your college is a good thing, imo. It isn't the rest of the south's fault that Texas is the greatest State in the Union and lots of people move here because our economy rocks.

Agreed. It makes me cringe to see things like Alabama billboards off the Tollway, but you can't blame schools for going after talented students.

Amazing what a "down" year for the Packers does for Wisconsin.

I like that USA Today link. Also, why are so many schools getting subsidies to Athletic Departments? That's ridiculous.

Wisconsin usually isn't that high. They must have started a fundraiser or something.

They are getting a buyout from Arkansas to boost their revenue.

Might part of it be Arky paying for BB?
BTN probably helps as well.

They still operate under an old system of budgeting from the days when athletic departments didn't make money. All of the schools in the upper part of that list repay the subsidy annually, and usually with a contribution of several million additional dollars to the general scholarship fund.

So I should just subtract that money out then?

haven't had to pay bowl travel expenses and yet we still have as many bowl wins in the past two seasons as LSU does. Amazing!
Nevertheless, the Hog administration gets to raise revenue while the other administrations have to plan bowl itineraries and such. Skewed data.

Texas A&M University raised $740 million last year according to DallasNews.com. The amount breaks the record set by Wisconsin in 2005 ($595 million) and could help the school's athletic department surpass Texas as the richest in college sports.
