for the state of alabama's sake, hopefully they dont send a person to jail for 9 years for killing a tree
that would be an enormous embarrassment

Auburn is the landgrant college which makes it state/federal property.
State property. Not federal.
These oaks aren't on the National Register.

won't cost them shite... unless of course they WANT to plant fully grown trees to replace the old ones. plant new ones for 50 bucks a piece, and charge the guy $100 bucks.

The Alabama fans making light of this are emabarassing. These are trees that are over 100 years old and are a staple part of the Auburn tradition. It literally would be like them knocking down a couple of our statues, except that it would take way less time and probably equal to or less money to reaplace the statues.
Did this person kill someone? no
Is it as bad as killing someone? of course not
Is it seriously shitty as hell? definitely
Should the man go to jail for it? absolutely
He is going to cost the state of Alabama, and us as taxpayers, a shite ton of money to fix what he fricked up.

it's still only vandalism, no?
this character wont have anything but a fine, and thats about how it should be
Motherfricker should spend some time behind bars and get a hefty fine. Alternatively, give a couple of Auburn folks (Nick Fairley) a half an hour behind Toomer's Drugs to kick the living shite out of this a-hole when they catch him. I'm no Auburn fan nor a tree-hugger, but deliberately poisoning 130 yr old trees is fricking sick.

Naw, he's still smiling. I promise he cracked at least one smile when we stole Cyrus and Calloway from yall. You are so pissed! And I love it.

so, should they sentence a guy for something MORE than the cost of the trees to make a preventative measure for the rivalry?
straight up, whatever auburn paid to plant those trees there... he should be charged. imo.

quote:It's not just replacing the trees. Given the amount of herbicide used, and the halflife of it, the soil could be contaminated for 3-5 years. So if the school decides it wants to replant, all of the contaminated soil will have to be removed - not an easy or cheap task.
won't cost them shite... unless of course they WANT to plant fully grown trees to replace the old ones
Also there is a possibility, depending on the percolation of the soil, that the herbicide could end up impacting other trees/bushes in the area.
