The computers made this way more fun.

Bama has earned the benefit of a doubt. One fluke last second loss on the road doesn't change that.
I don’t totally disagree

But it wouldn’t be ridiculous to make Alabama go beat Arkansas and Auburn before throwing them in at #2

The BCS also removed a lot of the human bias element which was kind of the point and which happens to be the biggest complaint of the current model. Creating a 4 team playoff was a step forward. Reverting back to solely human opinions (and fewer of them than the voters in the polls) was a step backward.

The most recent version of the bcs system was fine. Just take out the stupid Harris poll and add the AP back then get the playoff rankings from that and there wouldn't have been a problem.

The committee exists because a 4 team BCS would lead to Cincinnati making the playoff and they don't want that because of the $

There's a reason they lowered the computers from 1/2 of the formula to 1/3. The math systems gave us Nebraska in '01 and Oklahoma in '03.

The Harris poll existed because the AP didn't want their poll being used.

The Harris poll existed because the AP poll caused a split title in 2003 which defeated the purpose of the BCS

so who is bama's signature win?

It's a very simple question.

It’s nothing more than a glorified poll, no different than the AP or Coaches poll. You still have the same thing, people deciding who they think belongs where. It’s asinine we still choose the champion of the world’s greatest sport in the same manner beauty pageants are decided.

Melting over rankings in early November?

It really boils down to this: If Alabama loses again, they are out. If Alabama wins all of them, they are in.

What is your complaint?

It doesn’t really fricking matter. Bama could be the 10th team in the country but there’s probably still a greater than 50% chance they run through the top 9 in succession if allowed to face them.

It’s not really anything to do with Bama or the program’s overrated history either. Saban is just the best college football coach there ever has been. He’s able to build a machine that is near unstoppable even in down seasons.

There’s honestly no point in trying to fix the post season format until after he’s gone. Half the time it’s just selecting teams to get beat down by his.

When did "signature win" become part of determining the best teams?

Well then unranked A&M beating Bama with a backup quarterback ought to put Bama no better than 6. Careful, what you say can and will be used against you.

what determines "best team"?

If it's the roster on paper, why play the season?

If actual results matter........bama does not have a signature win and has a bad loss. There are several teams who have a better resume than bama at this point in the season.

Those are just the facts.

Yep, there's plenty of football left and the odds of this being the final standings are not good.

But the gripes and debate are fun to read.

Name the teams that would qualify as a "signature win" for any team.

A real big win and conference championships have been big for the committee all these years based on their picks. A 1 loss non-champion has only gotten in when there were 2 loss champions.
