How? I mean, outline the exact logic you're using. If PSU, who beat OSU but lost twice to OSU's once, beats USC, a team OSU hasn't played at all (and one that lost 3 times this season) and OSU loses to Clemson, a team PSU never played...that demonstrates...?

It all sounds well and good until you have to actually break down the chain of logic, right?

bullshite. So why hasn't the FCS and other football classifications died out?

Much lower expectations for popularity and profit margins as well as few players going to the next level?

If Penn State fans wanted Penn State in, perhaps they should have told their team not to lose to Michigan 49-10. There is no way you can convince me that a team that lost by 39 belongs in the NC playoff.

Four teams is fine.

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.

Not you, specifically, OP, but people in general who were saying it should be 8 teams (or more).

The social media era is an era of knee jerk reactions and overreaction in general instead of seeing things through to the end and watching the system work the way it is designed to.

Not the goal of the playoff. That's what the other bowls are for, and there have been some exciting bowls, I.e. Bham Bowl, Orange Bowl.

The playoff is to put the two best teams, against each other to determine #1 on the field, as best as possible.

Sorry buddy, we have to agree to disagree on this one.

No it doesn't!

College football is like any other sport. Some years there are dominant teams, like Bama this year. OSU always had their warts and Clemson had it's low moments as well.
Other years there may not be a dominant team.
Plus, on any given Saturday something wild and wonderful can happen.
It should be eight teams: the P5 champions and 3 at large teams. The first round games should be on campus, based on seeding or based on geography to allow teams to travel with less expense.

No it shouldn't.

It is moronic to make kids who aren't being paid play an NFL long schedule. Besides that stupid system would effectively kill the season.

If you aren't good enough to be considered top four then try again next year.

Enough of this hypocritical charity system you guys want.

Frick you for even thinking that.

Remember they are STUDENT athletes.

The #6-8 teams have no business getting a shot at the title. I wish people would quit trying to turn college football into the NFL. I hate seeing shitty teams like the Giants with 6-7 losses pull together and get going on a hotstreak to win a title.

Spoken like a blueblood who wants to control the process through name recognition and reputation.

If Bama (or whoever) is indeed the best team in the country let them prove it on the field.

Maybe this year 4 is a good number, but many years 8 would be better.

I think if any changes are made, the playoff could be moved to 6 teams. Top 2 get byes, plus the first round could perhaps catch some teams who slipped early but are on fire and the two victors of the first round would be vetted a bit more as they would have to prove the ability to beat another top level team so they don't get into the final four mix off a cupcake schedule.

why. Just beating a random team like SC is an accomplishment?

We know who the best team is, it's Bama. They earned that title by being the best team all year.

Know why Clemson isnt? Cause they lost to Pittsburgh. And on and on.

We should be able to suspend the playoff and crown a champ when it is so obvious

So you think 2 or 3 loss teams have proven worthy of a title "on the field"? When you lose multiple games "on the field" you shouldn't be given a playoff opportunity. Results during the regular season "on the field" matter and they should. Want to play in the playoffs? Then don't lose to bad football teams.

They are pathetic.

They want entire seasons written off because their team managed to win a bowl game. Laughable.

Why even play a season then? Just start some idiotic elimination round system from day one.

Idiots

Dude what about 2014?

There was 6 teams with only 1 loss that were very even. TCU clearly was top 4 but didn't get chosen, then they went and blew ole miss the frick out. They had a legit chance to win it all and had only 1 loss just like all the 4 teams in the playoffs. So you can't say they didn't deserve the chance any less. So yes, this year looks like 4 was enough, but in 2014 you can't honestly say 2014 was the right number

That's this year. Other years there are no undefeated teams, so then you're talking about the difference between 1 loss and 2 loss teams.

I don't blame you bluebloods for wanting to minimize your chances of losing in a playoff, but don't begrudge the rest of us for wanting a fairer shot at a national championship through an expanded playoff.

2014 had 6 teams with one loss. It is amazing the OP can't remember 2 years ago
