Us Louisiana folks, eh?

There are multiple reasons why games are lost, but one consistent is that Chavis has been prone to collapses and failures late in the game.

I can't deny Third and Chavis or Fourth Quarter Chavis is a thing. I just don't know if its a thing that matters to us.

It is like a New York stock broker saying "Yeah Chavis is a great fund manager, he will get your kid through college but he will totally frick up for 401k." Yall are pissed about the 401k, we are pumped our kid will coach to college. We are in different places in life.

What's his buyout, and increase per year?

I think he gets $1.6 million next year. A buyout with Chavis apparently is not a certain thing so that is hard to determine.

I'd be surprised if Miles didn't recommend him personally.

Good point.

So, I guess Miles is responsible for all of Chavis' success?

I'm glad we cleared that up.

If anyone wants to point to a critical component of ALL of LSUs success on D despite various DCs - it comes down to those two elements. Moffitt and his staff are simply outstanding and the strides made by LSU players in their S&C as they come in are tremendous. HUGE. This has played an integral role in LSUs ability to play younger guys in bigger spots than a lot of teams in the country. A&M has a great nickname in Black Death - but his results to this point aren't clear, at best, and certainly aren't an asset on the level of Moffit and LSU.

Culture. LSU is a defensive football team. They live and breath attitude, hate, effort, speed, violence. The way they run their camps, the way they approach the offseason - the things they sell recruits. It's hard. It's tough. It's mean. Sumlin has a soft culture. He's party and swagger. He's cool and fun. It works like a fricking charm and with it he is reeling in some serious talent, but it also has it's downsides and the team culture has an impact on the defensive side.

Beautifully summed up the difference in the 2 programs when it comes to defense

Chavis, Bo Pelini, Muschamp, Steele. Which of these things is not like the others?

Muschamp. He's the only one who hasn't had 50 points dropped on him as a DC at a major school. Since we're harping on worst games as a DC. Here are some fun numbers:

Worst games as DC

Steele
1/4/12: L 33-70 West Virginia
9/22/12: L 37-49 Florida State

Chavis:
9/16/95 L 37-62 Florida
9/15/07 L 20-59 Florida

Pelini
1/4/05 : 19-55 USC
11/23/07: L 48-50 Arkansas

Muschamp:
10/2/04 L 16-45 Georgia
11/10/07 L 20-45 Georgia

LOL Chavis allowed 62 points! 62 points! He sucks!!!

A&M fans need to stop acting like Chavis is the savior of defense for LSU. Bo Pelini led us to the 3rd ranked national defense for 3 straight years. Mushchamp also didn't do so bad either and had a 1st ranked national defense during his stay.

The only difference between Chavis and these two are that Pelini and Muschamp actually brought home a National Championship for LSU. We're gonna have a top notch defense no matter who the coordinator is because we can field the talent.

Pretty cut and dry, shut and close case. Don't see how anyone could argue with that. How has this thread gone on for 11 pages?

Lets remember that there was a fumble by Clemson returned for a TD in that game so it was actually 63 points on Steele's defense. I can't find a box score for the UF/UT game to see if there were points not directly scored on the defense but I did find a summary:

quote:

Danny Wuerffel led his Gators on seven straight touchdown drives, and by the time it was all over, the wounded Vols staggered off the field having surrendered an incredible 62 points. I'll repeat: Florida hung SIXTY TWO POINTS on Tennessee, and most of it came in the span of about two and a half to three quarters.

I can dig through history and find shitty days at the office for most DC's. One game doesn't define a career.

It doesn't matter what lsu fans think of Chavis. We expect you to hate him.

We will find out how good a Coach Chavis is, but there is no doubt whatsoever that he is a credible DC and a huge upgrade over Sny_er.

Damn, 62 is more than 59!

All BS aside, the auburn and MSST games last year were equally embarrasing

Side note, that was the only game UT lost that season and they finished #2 in the country.

Bonus Fact: The QB coach of the West Virginia team that put 70 up on Steele was our current OC, Jake Spavital.

We all know who was responsible for that offense, and it wasn't Jake Spavital.

it was 63 points

so you think y'all will hang 63 on LSU this year? Seems to be what you're implying. I have a beach home in Idaho for sale.

interested?
