My roommates keep talking about when Tyrann goes pro, and I just don't see him having much of a future in football after college (maybe special teams but still seems unlikely to me). It's driving me crazy that they keep talking about the possibility of him even being a remote defensive presence in the NFL (It sounds to me like they halfway expect him to be a defensive star). IMO, he doesn't have the size or coverage ability to last in the NFL defensively. What would you rate his NFL potential 1-10? What are the chances he leaves after next year? And what round do you see him eventually being drafted in?

Leonard is also the weakest link in the Jet secondary. He couldn't tackle Tebow and it led to a loss.

That was Eric Smith, Jim Leonhard isn't dumb enough to break containment and rush in.

fumble recoveries = luck stat

Or an instinct that is not a measurable by the scouts or combine. He is a play maker and has been his entire life. It is too early to tell, but I wouldn't bet against him being a success on the next level.

naw it's luck the vast majority of the time

there is probably a 2-3 yard radius for most fumble recoveries. you shouldn't be rewarded b/c you happened to be in that radius (or penalized b/c you weren't in it). it's stat that only is available for persons who are either (1) clairvoyant or (2) lucky to be in that area of the field

It helps if you are... 1) always near the ball 2)always know where the ball is

Tyrann seems to exhibit these two qualities more than most.

or it just means that our secondary (which does include TM7) is a lot better at forcing fumbles than our LBs or DL

I think if you compare his game to someone collegiality from the past few years, it would be Wake Forest CB Alphonso Smith(who I alluded to earlier).

While they differ in the ways they do it, they both seem to always be around the ball. Before he was a Josh McDaniels' draft blunder, Smith was an incredible playmaker.

8 career FFs , 4 TDs, 10 sacks, 61 PD, and a shite ton of INTs. Yeah, TM7 has him beat when it comes to blitzing, but their ability to be by the ball every play is very comparable...

I see him as a finnergan, a feisty player who could creat a lot of disruption and turnovers. I think he will be a system db, under a guy like belicheck, Ryan as a nickel/dime player. Do I think he will be a NFL player with a lengthy career? Yes. Do I think he will be a starting corner? No.

I'll compare him to goal poacher like Van Nistelrooy. Always reading the game and in the right place. Luck really is secondary to instincts.
