He put on a decent amount of size from his senior year at St. Aug to his freshman year at LSU. Put on more muscle going into this year. He can and will continue to gain some mass and strength.

Obviously he'll always be undersized but his ball skills, instincts and quickness are elite. Plus he's extremely physical tackling at that size. If he keeps up this level of play for the remainder of his career, some team at the end of the 1st round will take him IMO.

The guy is a ball player, simple as that. He will do fine in the NFL because he plays the game like its supposed to be played.

He plays like an nfl player in terms of iq and tenacity. But I don't think he has the pure cover skills that are required in the nfl. However, there are some pretty shitty corners in the nfl. So I would say he has a chance.

His cover skills are not great but they are not too bad either. They will get better each year as long as he has to desire to put in the time (which I think he does). Two or three more years of LSU coaching and SEC play and he will follow a path much like Javy. Kick return/special teams and a 3rd/4th DB used in nickle. Jr year maby a 3rd round choice - Sr. year I would guess 2nd round but he has the drive to stick once he gets there.

His cover skills are very lacking. Sure, he has a knack for the ball and for making big plays, but he will get burned on nearly every pass thrown at him. WVU receivers had little trouble finding space when he guarded them. After he caught up with them, that was another story. But I would be surprised to see him do well in an NFL secondary.

I think this is the best he can hope for, which is great for a player his height. He has got to gain some more weight, and don't think he will/should leave after next year.

I really dont understand a lot of the criticism coming his way. As a true sophomore, he is already the best player in the nation in my opinion.

What has the past few seasons taught us about top players in the sec?? By far the most nfl talent in the nation.

If tm7 is already beasting these future pros as a sophomore, I dont see any reason he wont translate to the next level.

What are you? 12? Your gift for exaggeration requires the mind of a child.

i don't think he has a great NFL future, but it's theoretically possible

he's short, small, and slow for a CB

he's real short, REALLY small, and fine in speed for a safety

and he's not bob sanders (i haven't read this thread, but i know it's been posted)

I think he's physically very similar to Antoine Winfield - 5'9" 180. Also, Winfield goes on a lot of corner blitzes. If TM has a good NFL career, it will mirror Winfield's.

if there is a comparison, it's winfield

If he is all these things, then why is he such a great and almost transcedent player?

first, he's playing in college, not the NFL. plenty of great college players didn't have NFL physical talent

second, a lot of his plays are off corner blitzes. ron brooks took that role over for a few games and he made big plays, too. most of the remainder of his big plays were strips (again, college v. NFL)

fumble recoveries = luck stat

he's a great player with amazing instincts, but when the size/speed difference picks up, he'll need to match it with his own physical tools. he's small for a corner, and safety is likely his NFL position (coverage/speed issues). he's like 30 lbs light for safety

Cortland Finnegan is pretty small. When I met him a lot of folks were saying pro scouts were looking at him. I laughed it off.

i believe he measured up at 5-9.5, 188 prior to the draft. and he ran a 4.35ish 40

Pretty good analysis, but he *is* the Honey Badger. He might surprise you.

Anyway... I could see him being good enough at kick coverage and returns to earn a spot on someone's special teams squad, and really making a difference. Starting safety or corner? I don't see it (yet).
