I promise I'm not trying to be salty about State either, were fricked and WPS

I just take issue with that criticism when people said the same about Mullen at State.

Look at what Mullen is doing at Florida. It took him 5 years just to have ONE year at State like he will have every year at Florida

Steve Spurrier was never the greatest recruiter to begin with and that includes his time at Florida. Part of the reason why he finished 5-9-1 against Florida State is, despite the fact that he consistently out-coached Bobby Bowden, the Seminoles always had the more talented roster.

Why couldn't they do it? Recruiting wasn't good enough. Period.

Nonsense. It's because they were playing great at a time when the literal GOAT was at Bama.

It's like with Petrino's teams. Those teams were good enough to win the title and if Alabama hadn't been the beneficiary of the greatest coach of all time at the time Petrino could have won a title. Same with Spurrier and South Carolina.

Note that I simply said the odds are not "extremely low." Like I said, in Arkansas case, we been here less than 30 years and have played for the title 3 times. Had two more seasons that typically would be enough to get you to the title game (back-to-back 11 win seasons).

By comparison, how many title games has Miss State played in? They're a charter member, right?

What I said is that the odds are not extremely low. Not nearly as low for some of the other teams in the SEC (thinking both Mississippi schools, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, etc.) The stats bear that out.

Actually both of these are true.

Idk Clemson came out of nowhere in 2014-15

To be fair...Clemson has a NC more recently than Georgia. So between the two of them...UGA would be the "new money".

I was wrong, Clemson was 9th in talent composite in 2016 but look at the breakdown
Bama at #1 had 17 5*s, 44 4*s and 20 3*s

Clemson at #9 had 4 5*s, 35 4*s and 35 3*s

It certainly is not likely for most mid to bottom tier Power 5 schools to win a title any time in the next 20 years. But it is not so impossible that it isn't worth striving for.

From the SEC alone, MSU, Arkansas, Mizzou, and South Carolina have all, in modern times, come within a few lucky breaks of having a shot at a national title. Same for Baylor, TCU, and Ok St from the Big 12, Michigan St, Iowa, and Wisconsin from the B10, Washington and Stanford from the Pac 12. Oregon was not so long ago thought of as a bottom feeder until significant resources were spent on it.

99% of schools in CFB can never win a championship in MODERN college football because they can recruit good enough.

LSU
Clemson
Alabama
Ohio State
Florida State
Auburn
Florida
Texas
USC
Miami(FL)
Oklahoma

have all won a MNC since 2000. There are currently 130 FBS schools. I'll let you do the math.

What team was the first team to be ranked #1 in the very first CFP rankings in 2014?

Mississippi State did not win the title in 2014. Nor were they close.

I greatly disagree with this. Arky was not in the same caliber as other teams in the conference those years like Alabama and LSU.

Ignore the record. Its meaningless. Just look at the recruiting rankings.

Bud Elliot talked about this in his 247 stuff. Only a handful of schools can win a title.

They were undefeated and ranked #1 with less than a month left in the regular season. That's fairly close.

You can take issue with all of them. My post was in response to the OP and stated that all of those teams could win a title. The "exceedingly low" comment was just to highlight that the chances of those schools ever winning a national championship under the current system were low enough, that winning a championship can't be the barometer for success. I didn't intend to imply that a championship is perpetually impossible.

Mizzou has been within one win of the National Championship game 3 times in the past 20 years. Most of you wouldn't know that but keep living in your little bubbles.

frick all of you. Before the motorcycle wreck AR was a top 5 program. It can be done here. State was even close with Dak. Heck, if they had outbid Auburn for Cam they would have won one.
