99% of schools in CFB can never win a championship in MODERN college football because they can recruit good enough. Period.

It doesn't matter who the coach is, or what the facilities look like. If you don't have the money, history and recruiting ability built into the program itself, it will never happen.

Why then do we judge coaches at these schools on wether or not they can win a title there?

Nick Saban could not win a national championship at Mississippi State. The end.

About half the SEC will never win a national championship in modern college football. If fans of any of these schools think that, they are in fantasy land.

And no, it doesn't matter that you won a title in 1963 or whenever.

That might as well have been 500 years ago in terms of how little that helps you now.

With this in mind, all I wanted out of state was to hover around 8-9 wins routinely and occasionally upset someone better than us.

Even that is extremely difficult and only Mullen has ever achieved it for any time period.

You are a living a dream, and that's all it is.

Be thankful you are in the 1%.

I think every school in the SEC, outside of Vandy, has the potential to still win a championship. Now, the chances for some schools are so exceedingly low -MSU, OM, Arky, USCe, Mizzou, UK - that your point stands.

They are a D1 school. What he did there was nothing short of amazing.

You will never win a national championship unless most of your roster are 5 star players.

Pittman will never recruit that well.

I disagree. Any SEC team technically has a chance to win a title. They just have to manage to win their division and make it to the conference championship and win that (unless you’re Alabama) while having less than two losses on the season (unless you’re LSU). In a 4 team playoff, that will be good enough to get any SEC team in (even UK, Arky, or Vandy).

Miss State came pretty close in 2014, but ended up with 2 losses to Ole Miss and Bama. Had they beaten Bama, they’d have had a real title shot. Heck, Ole Miss beat both Bama and State that year, but somehow lost to Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas.

It’s those G5 schools who have zero chance.

Realistically, one could argue that Vandy, Ole Miss, State, and maybe Kentucky lack the resources to realistically compete for an SEC title, but I don’t think that is actually true. Bama’s dominance since 2008 has certainly made things harder, but not impossible, and Saban won’t be coaching at Alabama forever.

Woah, hold on. Arkansas is not a charter member of the SEC. We have been here less than 30 years, have played for the title three times and had two 11 win seasons in a row more recently that would have gotten us there two more times if Saban hadn't been at Alabama.

Arkansas can win an SEC Title in football and the odds of it happening are not "exceedingly low." It just hasn't happened yet.

Not true. You need to be in the top-20 in recruiting on a regular basis. And most of the top-20 isn't loaded with 5 stars. And you need to be in the top-20 to compete in the SEC.

Why do people think a top 5 finish means that are close LMAO

The drop off from the top 3 is a MOUNTAIN in terms of talent.
