linemen blocking down field on RPO. 3 yards is too far. Needs to be 1 yard like the NFL.

That’s exactly one in the NFL which is completely awful. Common sense should tell any referee that a guy who weighs 325 pounds and runs like a semi truck stuck in 5 feet of mud isn’t going to be a threat to catch a pass and make a play for upfield. Beyond stupid.

The biggest issue here is they are not consistent in this and when they blow the whistle. I know it can be subjective and individuals can see things different but some won’t blow that whistle until the fans come out on the field and start pushing.

This has fluctuated over the years. In the 90's they whistled plays dead within about a second or two of contact, especially when the player was beginning to be pushed backwards. Now, if there is a scrum, they let the play go until the ball carrier finally falls down.

If I remember correctly you are an Auburn fan so I understand why you’d be against the pro version of the illegal receiver downfield rule, but the point of that rule isn’t to help referees differentiate between eligible receivers and linemen. The point of the rule is to prevent offenses from being able to run block on a passing play, which is exactly what many college offenses do these days. Being able to do that gives the offense too many options for the defense to be able to effectively defend. I typically am never in favor of following the pro game where rules changes are concerned, but in this case I think they’ve got it right.

No sir. Not an Auburn fan. Not a Bama fan. Not really an LSU fan either. Although I like Burrow because he is a Buckeye and I can’t fault the kid for going to where he was going to get the starting position. Perhaps these archaic rules about linemen downfield need to be re-evaluated. Just my opinion. Let the guys block how they want to block. Obviously except when it could severely injure the defense. That has no place in the game. Why should these massive speed freakish defensive linemen get to have every advantage over a fat offensive lineman? Or maybe youth football could start rethinking what a stereotypical offensive linemen should be. Maybe the o-lineman should weight train and workout to be like a speed freak defensive lineman. Now you may be onto something. Thanks man
