It’s easy to blame loses on refs. The truth is, there’s almost always something within the team’s control that decides the outcome. You are spot on. And AU’s defense was good enough to almost balance it out. That’s pretty damn good.

LMAO...insecure? We’re 8-0 with 3 top 10 wins. Auburn can’t win a big game under Gus but constantly looking for excuses. What’s the excuse for the Florida loss? You know, the Florida team LSU also best? All Auburn knows how to do is whine...and fake injuries bc you’re out of time outs.

People see conspiracies where they want to. The problem is much less bias and more incompetence and instructional arrogance. Officials are as bad as cops or unions when it comes to sticking together even when they shouldn’t. That’s why having a shill like Matt Austin comment on calls on TV is such a laugh.
My best friend has been a hoops and football ref for many years, and while he is reasonable, I know enough from him to know that refs, especially guys on the same crew, will absolutely take up for each other and never go against each other unless it’s absolutely necessary. They basically live together on the road every weekend for months at a time. Having the review officials connected with the field crew basically makes them useless because of this.
What you have throughout college football is a few small, insular networks of guys who stick together and don’t have a level of accountability that matches the control they have over the fate of teams with millions of dollars on the line every game. That culture needs to change for the quality of officiating to change. Weak links who make bad calls and hurt teams need to be fined and eventually fired for it before officials will start putting the task they are given before their own egos.
Officiating in the SEC, with refs interjecting themselves into situations and making fluctuating judgement calls that vary from crew to crew, looks almost as bad as the NBA right now. Every team should demand better than the sniveling, whiny, pathetic letter that Slive put out there this week. The fact that he released it at all shows that he knows how bad the problem is. I just don’t trust that he has the stones to fix it.
Forget bias. Create accountability and fix the incompetence and arrogance.

Lord help some of these posters if LSU shocks the world and beats Bama in 2 weeks. Chicken might as well just shut it down till next year because this place clearly can’t handle LSU winning.

I also agree with your post and even Finebaum was correct about everyone needs to hear the SEC office say that sometimes mistakes are made. The NFL admits it. All teams get good and bad calls. It’s a crap shoot man.
