One has nothing to do with the other. Frazier was a running back in an outdated offense. Sub 50% comp and fewer passing yards in a 4 year career than JFF in one season.

I believe so. She's rocking one of those "everything offends me" hairstyles now.

I don't think you're really helping your argument here by talking about passing. Johnny was simply not an elite passer. Without a very strong WR corp and using his legs to buy time, he wouldn't have sniffed the Heisman. In terms of what his strengths were, he's more like Frazier than you're admitting here. He absolutely earned that Heisman, but it wasn't because of his great mechanics and pinpoint accuracy.

One average over 300-83-3.6 (pass yards, rush yards, total TDs) per game. One three about 100-55-2.3. Johnny was an elite passer and it isn't even in question. They were nothing alike. Not even a little close.

I might take Johnny for a single season.

No way his best season was better than Cam's best. And if Tebow was the best how come he didn't paid as much as Cam.
I disliked Mr. Newton immensely. But, he and Vince Young won a NC damn near by themselves.

It is debatable, but the stats alone show JFF was better.

We're just going to have to disagree because I honestly can't see how anybody could actually watch Johnny's career at TAMU and consider him an "elite" passer. He was good, obviously, since he did manage to connect with relative frequency. That alone doesn't make him elite in my opinion. His greatest strength in the passing game was twofold -- evading defenders long enough to allow his receivers to get a measure of separation while spreading the field; and having receivers strong enough to get to the ball even in traffic.

I'm not sure why you're emphasizing the "college" part. No aspect of my argument involved judging him by his pro career. That would be unfair and immaterial to his college performance. The only argument I would bother with there is the one where someone you consider an elite passer and elite runner was projected as a 2nd round pick in terms of ability, if not necessarily in terms of publicity (which helped propel him to the late 1st round.)

Obvious recent examples include Bradford and Luck, for instance.

In case you're wondering, no, I don't consider Tebow or Cam "elite" passers either, so no worries about being compared unfavoraby to them. They were both very good, like Manziel and both, like Manziel, absolutely earned their Heismans for their overall ability at the position. But neither were pure college passers in the traditional sense.

Look, I'm not saying Manziel (and Cam and Tebow) didn't excel as a QB who passed for great results in toto. The numbers speak for themselves. But if we're talking about QBs you could watch and go, "Damn, that kid's an elite passer," Manziel isn't likely to be at the top of the list. He relied heavily on the heave and prayer, his mechanics were decent but nowhere near as good as actual elite pocket passers, and the real threat he represented lay in the fact that teams couldn't jam up downfield because Manziel always represented a threat to run and was difficult to contain. Add in some very strong receivers who could make plays happen more readily than Manziel's passes could on their own and you have a dangerous QB who isn't necessarily an elite passer. It's not a slam on him; it's just an observation of where his particular strengths lay.

JFF had a higher career comp % than Bradford or Luck.

It sounds like if the guys aren't great pro pocket passer prospects you don't think they're elite. Seems like a very flawed analysis. The object of a QB isn't to sit in the pocket and throw with good mechanics. The object is to move his team down the field. Johnny did that through running and passing. Like you mentioned he was able to do that by buying time with his legs when needed and getting the ball to his receivers. Do you think Kevin Martin is a poor shooter because his shot looks ugly? Of course not, he's had a handful of years shooting over 40% from 3.

I would agree with Tebow having the best career and Cam having the best year. I don't think Manziel is even in the conversation .
