I'd take some individual players, but as a unit, the only team I think that's better one deep in the SEC is Florida. Again, two deep...it's a different story.

Hell, Dont'a Hightower, Justin Woodall, and Javier Arenas too.

You two aren't following him. He is not picking individuals. You have to judge your entire starting 22 against his.

Who do you keep over those two?

Bama has the best LB group in the country. Even better if Jerrell Harris or Nico Johnson come in and ball out.

Julio is obviously a beast but someone needs to step up and be a threat (Maze, Hanks, Bowman).

I'm not saying I think we're better (slightly) at all the positions, just overall. This could change because Bama obviously has some high profile players coming in.

Ole Miss is strong at DL, QB, WR, RB and LB. Bama strengths are DL, LB, RB, CB, OL (if newcomers step up).

Is it football season yet?

He shoulda said his starting unit against anyone else's starting unit. The way it was worded.. he would take his against anyone, player for player and was willing to compare his player to player.

Bama has a better defensive unit and Ole Miss has a better offensive unit. Looking 1 through 22 doesn't make much sense even.

everrrr so close.

I'd take our Defense over yours and give you the advantage on Offense right now. And I give us Special teams too right now.

I took it to mean "best 22" and if you wanted to challenge, he would go position by position (or unit)

For example, he might give you Julio at WR but say Snead at qb for him, etc. his contention being that you may win some positions, but he'll have MORE

to piggy back on what Billy said; it's very hard for an offense that has a losing culture to learn a new coaches offense with a new qb and win early against quality defenses. Ole Miss was better than everyone they lost to possibly Bama, but the losses came when they were trying to figure out what they were doing. I saw a real ugly example of that in Arkansas this year. If you look at Bama Vs ark 2008 alot of the sacks and picks could have been avoided if Ark players knew their assignments.

Brando likes Ole Miss b/c he likes Nutt and a feel good story. The history of what they've had happen the last 30 years means nothing relative to what will happen this year. People buy in to some of that b/c of the chicago cubs history but they suck in post season b/c so many more of their regular season games is played in 100 degree heat which drains more energy of you for the play offs compared to other teams that do not.

That was the quote which looks like he is picking individuals since it is breaking down the positions. A unit and position are two different things.

Got it now. I think Bama still has more overall. I do give Ole Miss advantage offense though for sure.

we agree.

Ole Miss is very lucky that they get their "battles" at home. That still may not be enough.

Individuals comprise a unit. I'm not sure how else to analyze it. If we go unit to unit or individual to individual it won't make too much a difference.

I honestly believe is going to go down to Bama and Ole Miss for the West. The only reason why I give us the nod is because of our QB situation. Considering how QB is the most important position on the field, it tips the scales in our direction.

If McElroy comes in and plays at or close to Snead's level, Bama has the edge no doubt.

Very possible. We haven't won a big home game since 2003 and our home field advantage is historically average. Not a big history buff, tho.

I was just going over the rankings for last year. Ole Miss was ranked very high offensively overall.

2nd rushing
4th passing
3rd overall
2nd scoring offense

Defensively... very stark comparison in itself

2nd rushing defense
12th passing defense

It will be interesting to see what happens with all the new QB's in the league this year with your pass defense.

I'm interested to see if they carry the momentum the had at the end of last season, albeit against weaker QBs. They fared very well against Texas Tech, even tho TTU had lots of garbage time yardage.

They gave up 300 to Kodi Burns early in the season... still room for improvement obviously. Did a decent job getting some picks, tho.

ETA: not having Greg Hardy early in the season hurt our pass rush and subsequently hurt our secondary.

I'm actually curious to see how Bama's defense fares w/o Rashad... he was a gamer in every sense of the word.

Jerry was hurt early on as well. A good DL can sometimes mask a week secondary...

Remember we're good at ST though.
We've got a three year starter at K, who is considered first team SEC by a couple magazines.
