Uh huh....but Bama's run defense (#7 in the nation and #1 in the SEC) being so good and always taking big early leads doesn't force teams to throw either, right?

The last thing you want to be against Bama's defense is one dimensional.

Bama does get pressure. The stats don't show it because their defense is good. They get off the field. They make teams go 3&out thusly they get less chances to get sacks than defense that give up long drives.

Alabama opponents convert 3rd downs 29.52%, Florida 31.25%, Moo St 32.41%. It's an area where LSU really struggles on D (well, besides the other areas.. )

So what you are saying is that we have 2 VERY good WR's and a Very good RB.

So man coverage?

Nice....

Not to mention the fullback they're all so fond of, Copeland.

IMO 3rd downs will make or break lsu. Lsu leads the sec in third down conv% and bama is #1 in opp 3rd down conversion. Something has to give.

Exactly. That's what their run defense is forcing their opponents to become, yet Bama can't get after the QB better than 11 sack in 8 games against opponents that were forced to throw?

Bama's defense has never been predicated on pressure, but they can't get pressure if need be. Also, bama has had huge leads in most of these games so there is no need to bring pressure to disrupt timing when you're up 21 points.

As far as "go up and get it" WRs go.. sure. Odell is like 4 receptions and 100 yards behind Evans at this point in the season. Evans is better in the redzone though... that size.

Serious question, but do you jerk off before every big game? You seem like the type.

Against ole miss OBJr had 70 yards

Would you give up those 70 yards to get back the 3 turnovers? I sure would. It's not about shutting OBJ and Landry down, it's about forcing Mett to make bad decisions, something he has done the last two games.

If LSU is going to win this game, they can't afford to waste possessions and turn the ball over, plain and simple.

Implies Bama needs LSU's respect. If anything LSU is the whiny little boy trying so hard to get big brother's attention while big brother is dealing with the non-adopted little brother.

Preciate your interest in the game.

If its true what you say, then I guess there will be a lot of "pass-interference" calls agains Bama.
No way you have anybody that will cover step for step.

The whining little boy who has beaten big brother 9 of the past 14 regular season games and 6 of the past 8 in BDS but hasn't gotten their "attention"? Maybe big brother has ADHD? And all this time we just thought it was a matter of mental retardation. Preciate your blind arrogance.

The number of the passes that go to these 2 are extraordinarily high.. in the off week I'm sure Saban/Smart have come up with a plan to take away the 1st 2 options after the snap... LSU OL will have to hold up longer to get the ball to Mett's chosen 2... he won't have long. Mett almost doesn't even look to spread the ball around, no other WR has over 10 catches.. Bama will punish that offense and this game will likely get ugly... Mett and his WR Duo will have to have a big game anyway just to keep up.. but knowing that we will scheme to take away what LSu likes to do. And now understanding that Mett is capable of making plays.. we won't lay off him like last year.

I agree with you. I'd sell out on stopping the passing game....rush three guys, drop the linebackers on every play........the secret is out...we don't have "more than OBJ and Landry" and we certainly have nobody capable of running the football.

I imagine amount of plays the defense plays on, will limit the amount of sacks, TFL, or any other measurable stat.

Alabama's defense has the 3rd fewest amount of plays (467). 11 sacks results in 2.3% of all plays result in a sack.

Comparisons:
LSU 621 plays 20 sacks - 3.2%
Virginia Tech 561 plays 28 sacks - 4.9%
Clemson - 637 plays 30 sacks(#1) - 4.7%
Georgia - 559 plays 23 sacks - 4.1%
Auburn - 646 plays 21 sacks - 3.2%
Texas A&M - 657 plays 16 sacks - 2.4%

So, it is lower, but not on a large a scale as people put it.

Upon thinking about this "amount of plays", I went and grabbed info on plays vs. Sacks, INT's, Force Fumbles, TFL, PBU's, and even incomplets with PBU's and INT's taken out. A % of defensive plays that resulted in a negative or null play. I even threw in forcing the other team to punt.

Here's a extra long spreadsheet that hopefully works
LINK
Defensive Plays vs Sacks, PBU's (includes passes defended and INT's), Tackle for Losses, Forced Fumbles, Incompletes (minus the PBU's), and opponent punts. Each with a %, and the column on the far right is all of it against amount of plays.

Of course, this is just cold stats, and doesn't take account of quality of opponents. Because Baylor and Clemson "has" a better defense than almost everyone.

Too many STAAAATS. Why am I even posting this here, no one will care
