He told me that Pat Dye is very envious of what CNS has done at Bama and is about to bring in an OC that will build a huge O line and rebuild their running game. With what is going on down there in regards to Malzahn. Here it is - it is a tested and true theory about Auburn. 1. AU always knows IN ADVANCE who their next coach will be. It is always pursued and agreed upon in advance. 2. When Tater Tot (Bowden was still the coach - months before he resigned) they already had an agreement with Tommy Tubberville to become their next coach when they got rid of Bowden. 3. When Bobby Petrino left - they had a deal with him to bring him back (it was not as iron clad) - hence the plane trip that blew up in their face. Petrino knew it and AU knew - but, they panicked and acted when they didn't have to. 4. When Chiznick left to go to Texas - he was promised the head job down the road when they got rid of Tubberville. He left so he would not get caught in the "messy" divorce making it look bad for hiring from the inside (back stabbing situation - i.e. see Phil Fulmer). They knew Chiz would be a "play ball" type of guy and sell the "family/religion" mess hook line and sinker. ***That's why his record at Iowa State was of no concern. He already had the job. Trust me - Auburn could have done better. Which brings us to today. 5. Malzahn leaving for Arkansas State (taking a pay cut nonetheless) after having ample opportunity to get some other jobs last year is a sign that he is the next head coach at Auburn when they push Chiz out. A. He walks into a good situation left by Hugh Freeze. Can probably compete early and pad his record so he will not have a Chiz albatross around his neck. B. He is going to familiar territory where he can have success and recruit with relative ease (probably hire a bunch of high school coaches and get a few extra players - old friends) thus padding his record again. C. He's not at Auburn when heads roll. D. He's not at Auburn as the record dips. E. He's now has college head coaching experience. F. Pat Dye has slipped up before on PF's show and said he's the best coach down there. Almost implying that he's the reason for any success. Malzahn is the chosen one - THAT'S why he's leaving. For those who would want Kirby or McElwain to become our next coach. They need to go out and cut their teeth somewhere else as a head coach first. I'm so happy for a guy like CJM. I know he's going to do great at CSU. He's done a helluva job for us and will be missed - contrary to a few dissenting opinions on here.

I just heard him say it with my own ears, in response to a questionabout Mark Gottfried at NC State. Of course, as he has always done, Brando defended Gottfried to the hilt. Even as gottfried was running our Basketball Program into the ground. If there was a doubt by anyone that Brando has great enmity for Alabama, this should clear it up.
