If the rumor that there are two tiers and you get two teams in your tier and one team in the other is true. Auburn and Tennessee were on the 8/9 line. This would mean Tennessee would be in the second tier and Auburn would be in the first tier.

Alabama is certainly Tier 1
Vanderbilt and Kentucky is certainly Tier 2.

Not bad. Pretty much can count on 2 out of 3 regular season wins.

My goodness. They must have looked at Tennessee’s record the past 20 years and said, “That poor program needs help.”

Glad y’all had a nice little run with Saban though

If Auburn played every team they've faces over 100 times...it would only be Georgia that they would play.

Tennessee has played Vanderbilt 114 times:
18 more times than Auburn has played Mississippi State
29 more times than Auburn has played Florida
31 more than Auburn has played Bama

Tennessee has played Kentucky 108 times:
12 more times than Auburn has played Mississippi State
23 more times than Auburn has played Florida
28 more times than Auburn has played Bama

Tennessee has played Bama 106 times:
10 more times than Auburn has played Mississippi State
21 more times than Auburn has played Florida
26 more times than Auburn has played Bama

So, I guess we just throw out (SEC series with over 100 games played):
Auburn/Georgia (121)
Georgia/Florida (103)
Bama/Mississippi State (104)
Ole Miss/Mississippi State (117)
Ole Miss/LSU (108)
LSU/Mississippi State (114)

That's it. There are 9 SEC series that are over 100 games played, and 3 of them involve Tennessee.

Besides those three series...the next most played series for Tennessee is Ole Miss at 66 games...The drop from 3rd most played series to 4th most played is a difference of 40 games.

This rival stuff is so fake.

The only team with 3 real rivals is Texas.

The Georgia-Tennessee matchup has a lot of recent history as an SEC East matchup, but doesn’t really have a lot of history other than that. Like LSU and Auburn, UGA and Tennessee rarely played before the divisions.

Auburn was Florida’s most played opponent in their history through 2002, and the SEC ended that series to fit a new scheduling format.

Yes, rivalries should try to be protected to some point. But the argument of, “We’ve always played these two SEC bottom-feeders so we should always get to play the two bottom-feeders” is not really a compelling argument.

No team should get the luxury of playing both Vandy and Kentucky every single season.

Auburn didn’t play Alabama from 1907-1947, so Tennessee only having seven more wins despite Auburn taking 31 years off from playing Bama when Bama was relatively weak is not saying much.

Win% Against Bama:

.428- Auburn
.410- Tennessee
.331- LSU
