Mississippi State, by some stroke of luck, had back to back All-Star ADs (who are now at Bama and Florida, respectively).
As a result, their athletic programs performed exceptionally well. NY6 Bowl, years of bowl eligibility, played for national title in baseball, facility improvements, etc.
I think they are regressing to the mean with a baseball coach as an AD. Basketball sucks. Who knows what baseball will look like and football has nosedived.
They’ll miss a bowl this year and need to fire their basketball coach.

If we had such all star athletic directors then how could they hire such shitty basketball coaches?

Basketball will be in the NCAA tourney for the first time in years. Football had an above average season, went to another bowl, and will have one of its best recruiting classes ever. Who knows about baseball, but should have a great pitching rotation. And WBB is still strong, for those who care.

Baseball finished third in Omaha last year, had a great recruiting class, and is preseason top 15.
Men’s basketball has been ranked all year and will be in the tournament.
Women’s basketball will not lose another game until the Final Four.
Football went a disappointing 8-5.
States overall athletic department is actually pretty solid. I know football is king, but who Else has their top four sports ranked?

State is trash. Nice folks and all but their athletic department is no good. Worst in SEC by a mile

id be pretty disappointed by howland if i were a state fan. just making the tourney this year shouldnt be the goal.

If being ranked in all four big sports is trash, then I hope we continue to be trash for a long time to come. :)

Just making the tourney should not be the goal. However it’s not a dismal year if we make it for the first time in 10 years

I agree with you, and I'm not terribly impressed with Howland other than his recruiting....but the OP said athletics was regressing and that simply isn't true.
