I was assured that A&M's defense was garbage. One of the worst in history. Hot shite on a stick. Just awful.

I'm more concerned with the #1-ranked team on that list.

If you are giving up 22 points per play on defense then you are pretty bad =p

Mr. Maplethorpe, I looked up alot of yall's defensive stats today, and they are mostly garbage, in that your defense is better than what the rankings are on ESPN.

Because teams get better as the season progresses, you need to take your last 4 SEC games, add up all the points you gave up, subtract special teams and defensive points, divide by 4.

Then do that for your opponent's defense.

Check it out... do the math... you might be surprised how good you are.

They also have a high paced offense which will skew the numbers further.

That's why I showed points per play. The offense scores so fast that opponents get a lot more possessions in a game, which skews the total yards and total points numbers.

Yards per play and points per play is a much better indicator of defensive strength to adjust for different styles of play.

why does points per play matter?

This only means aTm doesn't give up alot of big plays.....shocker! This is the SEC we don't do many big plays. We grind the shite out of teams.

Don't let the stats fool you, aTm will not stop Bama's running attack. CLose in the first half while Bama adjusts to aTm's speed, then Bama wears them out in the second half. 38-14 Bama

That is the real problem for aTm. When good defenses (LSU, UF)made their adjustments in game, aTm has never really had an answer for it and their offense seems to fall apart. JFF is an amazing player, but when he gets shut down or contained it seems like all of the fight is out of aTm offense.

Even that is suspect. We scored 28 points before Auburn had a first down. Johnny played one series in the second half, at which point we went up 49-7. For all intents and purposes we held Auburn to 7 points. We gave up 24 to LSU, 27 to Ole Miss(in a really really really sloppy game) and 10 points to Arkansas. Realistically our defense isn't going to give up more than 35 to Alabama, and a lot of that has to do with our up tempo offense. If we score 36 or more we beat Alabama, imo. Does that happen? I don't think so, but I fricking hate the gumps and I want to stomp their smug entitled asses.

I agree with this to an extent. I am a huge critic of this offense, especially in the red zone, but Kliff(much to my surprise) has adapted. We opened up the running offense to Johnny, allowing him to become comfortable with it. We didn't run the zone read until the Auburn game. We have gotten better, and our coaching staff had to learn to how to make adjustments to SEC defenses, and they have. If you think Florida beats us right now, you're insane.
