I agree, the enthusiasm is lacking.

When it comes down to a handful of teams willing to pay players for one season the amount of money that used to fund a pretty decent stadium expansion if not the whole thing, something is lost.

Texas is certainly favored to win it all but if/when they do will fans feel the same sense of pride and accomplishment they had when they were putting players like Sam Ehlinger on the field, a guy who wanted to be a horn all his life and didn't ask for a dime?

When the players are enticed to come to a school based on the number of Lamborghinis on the field rather than touring the new science center or meeting a world renowned professor does it still feel like college football or a bastardized version of the NFL?

Is the game beyond fixing?

NIL has brought down a lot of passion/enthusiasm.

No for Missouri fans. This is the best Mizzou roster so far because of the NIL and transfer rule change.

Tennessee fans aren’t quite as optimistic as most offseasons

I believe this is the correct answer….

I dunno about most quiet. But it’s the most wide open the SEC has been in a decade

Is it?

Georgia and Bama have been the top 2 teams in the league for the last 8 years. They are still 2 of the 3 top teams going into the season. Texas was a favorite last year and are in the top 3 again this year in preseason picks. LSU is on the fringe along with Ole Miss.

Nothing has really changed.

Yeah, I quit following recruiting. What’s the point? No longer active on my team board during the offseason. Here and there over here. Just not the same.

Well I’ve heard the talking heads say there are up to 6 teams being talked about as having a chance to win the conference, or at least get to the SECCG

When the teams with the biggest TV audiences get the easiest schedules. The the committee’s only criteria for being in playoffs is win/loss. It just won’t be exciting. Guess we’ll see if it plays out same as last year…

This.

There's just no point. Recruiting used to be really fun to follow...not so much now. Sure, happy to get a 5 star, but it doesn't mean as much as it used to when they can just leave anytime for a dollar more.

I used to support the players getting a % cut of the revenue...maybe set aside in a trust for when they left school...but this BS now is just killing the game.

And I'm soooo sick of hearing the term "collective bargaining" this off seasonon sports radio. Why would people follow NFL-Lite when they can just follow the real thing?

Greed and judges have killed college football. Half empty stadiums won't happen overnight...the games will be attended and watched...but watch out when you see enthusiasm diminishing...and it is.

Agree. But at the end of the day I just don’t believe that money will buy a championship. It’ll buy talent but without the development, culture, and heart then a team with better culture and heart will hit them in the mouth.

Seems about normal. Is there usually a loud offseason here?

You usually have:

Alabama & Georgia fans thumping their chests
Tennessee fans claiming the preseason national championship
Auburn fans usually talking about past greatness
Arkansas fans shite talking their own team
Everyone shite talking Mizzou
LSU and Ole Miss fans shite talking everyone else

This is a huge part that was lost.

Recruiting was a blast to follow, now I could give a shite if a kid commits to us. What does it matter if he's committed and someone can swoop in at any second and give him a bag?

A lot of the fun of college football is gone.

But the trend is underway, and you will see it *this* year in viewership numbers.

As you say - it won't be DRASTIC overnight, but the worm will start turning.

True, but it will get you to the dance. (7-win Sark is suddenly a coaching giant...)

It will ultimately take coaching to finish the deal. (Which Sark has not done yet)

This is by far the least enthusiastic I have ever been about the upcoming CFB season. I will still watch I’m sure, but all the changes have really dampened my excitement.

All of us will still watch, we are on a mainly CFB forum after all..lets be honest. We love our Universities and care so much that we will continue to; watch games, go to games, make Saturdays off limit during CFB season, follow along ..
