I was able to get ahold of some tix to the OM-A&M game last minute and thought this would be a cool trip.

Questions:

How far is the drive from there to CS? Less than two hours?

What are some good bars/restaurants to hit up?

For a chill bar I like The Elephant Room down on Congress. For a burger hit up Hopdoddy, but be ready for a line. In traffic (aka after the game) the trip can take three hours.

Didn't you guys beat Texas in Austin last year? Why didn't you go then.

This weekend it might be kind of tame. They will be getting their arse kicked in Dallas by OU.

At any rate most of the students there say a trip to Austin must include a stop off at Oilcan Harry's. I think you will have a good time there. Enjoy.

I'm more thinking of how long the drive will be from Austin to CS before the game, and what time I should leave to get there about an hour early.

Don't really care about the drive back. Got a sober driver

Hobdoddy is overrated.

South congress is good. Home slice pizza is legit.

I was still in school then and had a project to work on that weekend.

You can usually make the drive in less than two hours, but probably not on a game day.

It is NOT a freeway or even a limited access highway. There are even a few spots that the highway is not divided, but those spots are under construction. You go through lots of small towns. Watch your speed, or you will be funding local government.

Are you planning to stay in Austin? If so, stay at the Driskill and walk to the bars on and near 6th Street. There are several other nice hotels equally-near, but the Driskill is the coolest The bar and live music scene may be a bit dead, since the 'sips will be playing OK in Dallas.

I do not recomend staying in College Station and driving to bar hop in Austin, then driving back to BCS. We used to do that when I was at TAMU, but it was stupid.

I did an atm game then a Texas game in the same day once.

It's your standard 2 hour drive. Plan on three for gameday traffic.

Actually ACL fest is going on this weekend.

I would recommend you staying at the Lost Pines Hyatt on 71.

Austin is going to be pretty crowded and a mess. Just my opinion tho.

So Hobdoddy is something you should do for sure as a first timer? Sounds like the Library in oxford. I don't hang out at the Library often
