I think getting rid of that dude is prob in Mizzou's best interest. He did win a few games, and Mizzou has some injury problems but I think he is in over his head now.
Mizzou definitely has the potential to be very good in the SEC, they can recruit other areas besides the south alot easier than most SEC schools could.
It's a bad year to be looking for a coach, but I still think it's the best move for Mizzou.

I agree. It will probably happen next year. Way less competition.
defeatist attitude imo. There are always schools looking for coaches. You don't keep a guy around you don't want because others are also looking. The best hire isn't necessarily about throwing the most money at someone.
I'm not saying you should fire Pinkel for one bad season, but if you think it's time for him to go, other openings should have no bearing on it.

Isn't ha what Tennessee did to end up with Dooley though?

I misspoke I guess. One, I am a proponent of coaches having a hotseat year. His is next year.
A minor reason is that I want to make sure we have a comprehensive list. We are going up against schools that have poured way more time into theirs then we have. Pinkel deserves another year, so to him perform or leave.

Edited my original post...not necessary.
Regarding Pinkel - keep him. You may not like the alternative. /signed A&M fans everywhere

It would be a big mistake to get rid of him after one bad year. They didn't have their starting QB for half the season. Mizzou might be a better job than it was a year ago but not by much.

I think the OP said something about it being on Tigerboard because he knows its generally a cesspool. But made it clear the source is a guy who has been correct many times in the past.
And you're not equating the off field issues with Pinkel. He is a mess and it's spilled over to this program, when that happens you're liable to lose your job.

People dont know the outside issues, and unless they are MU Fans I am happy with that.

Im an outsider with no axe to grind and I try to call it as I see it....and heres my .03 worth:
At the beginning of the year and also based on what little I knew of Mizzou football the past five-six years...I thought GP should be let go and hated the gimmicky offense. But sometimes we are in over our heads and it is what it is...if outmanned you cant run power football.
Then you lost to Vandy and it seemed that sealed the deal, however, I was taken back by the effort shown by Mizzou against UF in the Swamp, the loss to VU had fired up the team...etc etc and you guys could have upset us. Unfortunately that fire in the belly didnt last long and you didnt show up lately.
But I think GP should be retained with staff changes and Mizzou may have to open up checkbook up to update everything facility wise. Lets face it, Mizzou isnt exactly the first school five star recruits think of. DGB was a solid pickup that joining the SEC might have assisted with. It can be built on...but you face the reality that Mizzou isnt a fertile recruiting area and out of state recruiting is crucial. If I was AD...GP would be given this instruction: go out and dont come back without some talented recruits. Hit Texas and Chicago area schools hard...real hard. Get some nasty big men for OL/DL....RBs that are about 5'9 225 that cant be tackled. Dont get too many JUCOs...they are gone too soon and usually only good one year.(as a rule)
Maybe you can salvage everything...if not, then u spend $$ on a splash hire show the country that Mizzou aint taking a backseat anymore.

Solid post. Whenever we do spend, apparently the big money will absolutely be there. I dont think money will be an object but he needs to perform next year or bounce. I cant do this year again.

I think Strong is a great choice for Mizzou. Mizzou needs to recruit Florida bad and Strong can get you there. I think he is a much better choice for Mizzou than Tenn or Arky. Too bad yall have a coach.

I see some who are saying we should keep him with changes to the staff and what not. The problem is, what do you do when he tells you no, I'm not changing anything?
I keep thinking back to when we first joined the SEC and we caught hell on here for statements Pinkel made about how Mizzou isn't changing, the SEC is going to have to adjust to us. Well, now that that approach didn't work you would think Mizzou would adjust, but if the man is continuing to say the same thing, what do you do?

His time of reckoning has come.
An aTm blowout means bye-bye Gary...
Pinkel is a very good coach and firing him would be a mistake.
The only serious criticism I can level at the Missouri football program is they seem to have fixated on recruiting Georgia instead of aiming to recruit the upper midwest (STL, Chicago, etc).
Unless they are children of Mizzou alumni or MO transplants you just aren't going to get a return on recruiting Georgia when you are up against more established schools that are much closer (and don't have cold winters)

If he gets rid of a few coaches, OC Spicoli being one of them, he will get another year. He is loyal to a fault.
I love the way he tells recruits that we are family and the coaching staff has been together forever. That is because no one else wants these coaches!!! We had an OC get a HC job (Wyoming) and a DC get a pro LB coaching position (Cleveland). Other than that no one has got a sniff anywhere else.
