It's those bloody crimson jerseys.

Which is part of We are Alabama, and how it is meant.

Yeah, but that's an artificial perception of (mostly) casual college football followers. That's not inherent to Alabama, which is what i was referring to.

Perception becomes reality.

Well, we were better than you last time.

Are you trying to convince a fanbase of a school / team with a glorious history (perhaps the best in college football, ever) to NOT have pride and glean happiness from that history?
I don't get the point of the thread. We, LSU fans, are appropriately proud of our program and its recent success especially.
I would rather have the Bama fans wearing hats, shirts, etc and proclaiming their pride and positive expectations than to take some phony "aw, shucks" attitude toward their team.
Where is the fun in a game / rivalry without the passion and pride from BOTH sides???

I'm sorry for all the dumbasses. There is nothing inherently great about any program.
it's like saying "LSU is the best program in the SEC because of the uniforms they wear"

Something ArKansas would be accustomed to for sure.

I would chose between being an LSU fan then a Bama fan everyday of the week
LSU great recent success, and pretty good all time.
Bama Mediocre recent success, great all team.
LSU better in every other sport.
Great to be a Tiger.

What was saban's record here?

quote:What will really trip your trigger is that during our "Mediocre"(Stretch even calling it that) run since 2000, we have 1 less 10-win season than LSU had in their entire history before Saban got there. From 1909-2000 LSU had 3 10-win seasons, we have had 2 since 2000. Even when we suck, we are still respectable. The streaks we had from both sets of Tigers, the inability to beat inferior teams (Northern Illinois, etc), and the inability to put teams away (Arky 03, UT 03) have clouded the Bama program. However, Saban after this season, has put fire back into the program, has restored the "Winning" attitude, and is bringing in Blue Chip talent. This has caused a lot of us gumps to lose our minds, especially those of us that remember and grew up watching Bama in the 90's.

PLEASE, PLEASE don't turn this into another ridiculous 30 page thread trying to say that Saban didn't do anything for LSU, LSU did it all for him, even though they couldn't do it for any other coach in their history.

But he didn't - and the reason he didn't is because he was recruited to play for Alabama by Frank Thomas, where he played on a National Championship Team in 1934 and learned how important a winning tradition is. When Alabama called he came running.
No, he came back because the College Station, Texas area was a dry area at the time. The sauce was calling him.

You were put on probation after one of those 10 win seasons, right? The other one was Shulas mirage, right?

quote:Correct. The better question is do you know why? People act like we were caught giving every player on our team new houses and 100k a year. We had a rougue booster outbid the other teams for a recruit. Does not make it right by any stretch though. We were rightly punished, however, NCAA even admitted they were wrong on many accusations, and said the punishment was too harsh, but was nothing they could do after it had been handed down. We pushed through it. End of story.

quote:Mirage or not, the guy still thumped UF and beat 9 other teams. I really wish I would have been a member on this board leading up to the Cotton Bowl. I'm sure the "TT gonna smoke you" and "Book it. Gumps will get throttled" threads would have been humorous to watch.

We were put on probation before 2002 over a player that never stepped on the field for Bama.

I give all the credit to Joe Kines for us winning 10 in 2005. Shula is a classy guy and I respect everything he did here as a player but he was a horrible HC.
