In short, it was kind of like the Boston Massacre.
Both events never should have happened. Soldiers are not law enforcement. At Kent State these soldiers were the same age as the students. They were poorly lead and lacked judgement. The students shouldn't have thrown rocks at people with guns either.

People protesting the involvement in a useless war should not receive a death sentence.

Thought for sure you were gonna find a way to blame this on Saban also. He was there, after all.

OP is basically presenting Vietnam protests through a modern lens, as if they were similar to Black Lives Matter protests.

It's pretty misleading and nonsensical, whether that was his intent or not.

He won 49, fricktard. You want to trash the other guy...fine. At least try to find a couple of brain cells to rub together and do some research so that you don't come across like a fricking moron to those of us who were actually alive back then.

I just went and checked that post. 41 upvotes to 6 downvotes. Yeah, I clearly humiliated myself on that forum.

Away with you, commie alter.

Upvotes on the political board is nothing to really brag about. A guy earlier this week posted "I hope Putin lets Europe freeze this winter" and got 12 upvotes and 5 downvotes. Have an upvote for letting thousands of women and children freeze to death.

I stand corrected! 49 states in a landslide! Nixon was a wonderful president. The commies had to take him down because of how popular he was, despite not being one of them. Sound familiar?

I grew up in Ohio and lived not far from Kent State.

frick you and your idiotic take. No one deserved to die that day or at Jackson State eleven later.

ETA: And you're a poster I generally like.

ETA again: Nixon was taken down because he was so insecure that he couldn't keep himself from having crimes committed during the election process. I too think he was a great president but the whole Watergate thing was childish and stupid.

Sounds like you're a fricking idiot who doesn't know basic American history. You stand corrected? Everyone knows that McGovern only won his own state, plus DC. Everyone...except you.

I know a guy that was in the guard and at Kent State when this happened - he WAS NOT in the unit where the shots came from, but he was a guardsman and at the school at the time

His is a really interesting perspective - he’s in his 80’s now and in poor health - an antique dealer who lives in Gainesville, FL now

I met him on the antique circuit…

No, but…

It was a “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” moment

The guardsmen were all kids, like you said, and most of them were only in the guard to get out of being sent to Viet Nam

My buddy had never held a gun before he joined the guard and HAD NOT BEEN TRAINED to use his gun when he was at Kent State - the whole thing was a cluster frick, but the rock throwers bear the majority of the blame in this case

When did I say people there deserved to die?

Something being justified is not the same as saying someone deserved it. Can you not separate the two concepts?

Example- the guy in ATL who beat up a cop, stole his taser, and started running away when the other cop shot him. Did the perp deserve the death penalty for that crime instead of going to trial and facing a just punishment? No, I don't think so. But, were the cops justified in shooting him due to the circumstances of the situation at the moment? Absolutely. A judge and jury exonerated them, so it's not just my opinion. Do you see the difference between justified and deserved?

If not, let's get more simple. If someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night, do they deserve to die instead of being tried for breaking and entering? No. Ideally they get charged for breaking and entering and go through the justice system. But would I also be justified in shooting them? Of course.

I worked on his campaign, he had issues

I respected his foreign policy
I respected he would not be manipulated by the Beltway Boys and the Cliff Dwellers

I did not respect other parts of his personality, but he was the right guy for that time.
