It was called Agriculture and Mechanical College of Texas until the 60s.

Agriculture and Mechanical College of Texas Fighting Aggies is a bit much for a sweatshirt.

Every post you’ve made here has screamed “longhorn.” You just confirmed my suspicions.

You Aggies are so paranoid about UT alters.

I’m not paranoid in the least.

But I know someone with horn ties when I see one.
I’m like a pig sniffing out truffles that way.
Call it my own personal version of gaydar, but for horns.

Trust me.
Shoot, he even admitted it.

You would think it’s paranoia, until you realize longhorn boosters actually paid for a fake billboard to be put up in Gainesville claiming “Aggie Nation is annexing Gainesville” (or something like that).

Couple that with the Longhorn alters on here claiming to be LSU fans, and it’s not paranoia at all.

So it’s founded in the reality that longhorns do behave like this regularly.

So one of those t-shirt fans, since you wear an LSU badge. Typical

Why does A&M call themselves this?

So as not to be confused with the New Mexico State Aggies.

...or the Utah State Aggies.

...or the University of California, Davis Aggies.

...or the Delaware Valley Aggies.

Nah, their embarrassing losses and the collapse of expectations have taken care of it for the most part.

First, aggies are new to the conference, if you think something is "fresh", it's not, it's old. You really can't come up with anything new at this point so don't even try.

Second, you really shouldn't comment on something you don't know anything about.

Why does A&M call themselves this? Not a flame, genuinely curious. You never hear "Ohio Buckeyes," "Mississippi Bulldogs," etc.

I'd say it's within the realm of one of the examples you personally gave. Why do the buckeyes refer to themselves as 'THE Ohio State'?

I can't give you a solid consolidated answer for 'why we call ourselves Texas Aggies' as from what I can tell different people have different reasons. But three of the more common reasons you will see:
-Texas Aggies has better/more a ring to it than Texas A and M Aggies
-Tradition from past branding. See the Bear Bryant A&M photos, our band is called The 'fighting' Texas Aggie Band, etc.
-A direct jab at tu, as branding ourselves THE Texas college brand.

Hope that helps.
