To be fair, most of our “star” defensive players (including Pearce) only played a handful of snaps (around 12-14) against UTC and Kent. The one game where our starters played more than a half was NC State, where we had 3 sacks and 13 TFL.

Yes.
Every stat is adjusted for opponent and it eliminates stats for games that were out of hand when they occurred so running up the score doesn’t matter.
Also FCS games aren’t counted.

Well yes, but they’re also adjusted for opponent quality.
So the computer thinks they’ve greatly outperformed relative to who they’ve played.
But I agree that week 3 stats for teams like Ole Miss and TN are to be taken with a grain of salt.
Of course the same holds true for teams that’ve played Houston, Tulane and Temple…

The "Mickey Mouse offense" displayed against Temple isn't going to cut it in the SEC.
