I know they will now argue that the purpose of the super regionals was to expand the teams in the tournament but that’s complete bullshite as that was many many years after the change.

Back in the good ole days you had 8 regionals with seemed like 4-6 teams and since all the college baseball fans are in the South all the regionals were typically in the South except for the ones in California. So the CWS typically was made up entirely of teams from the South and California, and it was typical for the SEC to get 3 or 4 teams in. The other conferences claimed was an unfair advantage and thus the super regionals were developed to basically make sure the SECs 3 to 4 team average was diluted and more teams and leagues got in for better TV ratings etc. The SEC vs SEC super was one way to do it, and often they had two of those a year etc. Ridiculously crazy seedings etc were also par for the course.

They were all designed to make sure nothing like the 90s could ever happen again.

Although we have all gotten used to it, never forget it’s origin and true purpose.

The CWS is still almost always filled with West Coast/Texas/Southern teams.

Arizona
Stanford
NC State
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Mississippi State/Notre Dame
Virginia/DBU
Texas

The only team in that group that isn't Southern/Texas/Pac 12 is Notre Dame (and they're in a "Southern" league).

And the SEC still may if MSU wins tomorrow? Hell at one point last night it looked like there would be 4-5 SEC teams in.

ARK and OM just didn't do our jobs or your premise would be a non-issue. Either way, the CWS will be pretty normal as I see it. Oregon State was a recent back to back.

So you think expanding college baseball nationwide is a bad thing overall?

You may be right but it's not the NCAA's fault that Arkansas outscored North Carolina St. 28-11 over the weekend but failed to make it to Omaha. And Notre Dame is going to beat Mississippi St. Book it. That's laying an egg and it's on the conference.

Wut? The Supers were to add parity. There was none. This wasn’t an SEC thing like CFB is now. College baseball was always regional, and the old regionals actually had that geographic importance. It’s why schools like Maine and Northern Colorado have a fair amount of CWS appearances. They dominated those regions.

The SEC is a great baseball conference, when you go back to the 90’s, Florida, Vandy, and SCar hadn’t won titles yet. Cocks and Hogs were new to the conference anyway. Prior to the Supers, LSU had won 4 titles, Georgia had 1, and MSU had a solid reputation as a powerhouse.

In no way was the SEC head and shoulders above Pac 10, or even the SWC. Then you add in Fullerton and Pepperdine winning, and Long Beach as a stable power.

Sorry, the Supers were not specifically planned to end some SEC dominance that hadn’t yet happened.
