I don't know about that. Here's how it could go, but I'm no lawyer....
Frat, rich or poor, hires a lawyer on contingency fee base. Lawyer covers all costs. Plenty of hard up lawyers out there to take the case. First thing is initiate as a nuecense suit. Shake down the old timer see what he's got. If he has some money the lawyer and client may negotiate some type of compensation to go away. No settlement, go to court. I don't think there is any insurance that would cover assault.
If he has nothing go to court, get judgement against old timer. Lawyer files lien on old timer, including his costs to client. Lien filed on old timer. If old timer ever sells properly, lawyer and client get paid. Old timer inherits, lawyer and client gets paid. Old timer wins lotto lawyer and client get paid. Old timer dies, lawyer and client gets paid out of any estate at death.
Not saying it'll go this way, just that nothing good is going to come from this assault.
