Not exactly. Are you saying that Auburn would choose to not have a bye week all season and save it for the week before the Bama game? That doesn't sound very smart to me unless your whole season is about Bama. The SEC office gives some leeway but I remember we wanted to move our off week before UT and were told no by Cramer.

Here is an article on the scheduling.

Why not Starkville? Very little chance of funny business there.

Yes. Don't forget, until the SEC stepped in and said all teams had to play the weekend of Thanksgiving, Auburn and Bama both used the final weekend of the season as their bye. East teams complained saying it was unfair to have an off week leading into the SECCG and so the league changed the rule.

If schools didn't have a choice of bye week scheduling, there would be no need for a rule from the league.

However, the SEC sets the conference schedule, other than traditional rival games. Six of Alabama's eight SEC opponents have, or will have had, bye weeks before playing Alabama. For nearly a decade straight Tennessee had a bye week before the Alabama game.

You do realize that the SEC is involved in more sports than Football, right?

And we are most certainly "something" in that basketball.
