Wait. Didn't the B1G literally change the rules a few years ago just so Ohio State could represent their conference in the playoffs?

The Big Ten officially changed its policy that teams must play six games to be eligible for the conference championship game, meaning undefeated No. 4 Ohio State will face Northwestern on Dec. 19.

The conference made the announcement Wednesday after its administrative council, made up of all athletic directors and senior women administrators, voted to eliminate the minimum-game requirement in collaboration with the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors.

Two biggest reasons:

1) Nick Saban retired

2) NIL redistributed the talent.

NIL is the worst thing to ever happen to the SEC.
Not only are honest teams allowed to also pay their players, but honest teams with deeper pockets.

The moment every college played by the same rules the SEC went to shite.

So its your premise that what, UGA and Alabama and LSU and Auburn and Florida were openly paying $50 million a year for a roster when it was generally frowned upon to openly pay players to play? Its your premise that the transfer portal ONLY applied to SEC teams and only to players transferring INTO SEC rosters? It is hard to imagine how players transferring out would help a lot. If that's your premise my friend, and I say this with all due respect, you are a stupid motherfricker. No one in the SEC was paying $50 million under the table in the entire history of the SEC, let alone any one team doing it in any given year. No one in the SEC could have unlimited transfers onto their roster while losing no one. The rules changed FOR everyone with the portal and NIL, it wasn't a matter of everyone else playing within a set of rules and the SEC spending $50 million a year for a roster...thats fricking stupid. Beyond fricking stupid. The rules changed for everyone and thus far it has worked out for the Big10 and hasn't for the SEC. The rules change did not cause this....Michigan got right after wondering in the darkness for a LONG time and Ryan Day managed to not frick up what should have been numerous national title seasons. The rules changing has, however, facilitated Indiana (and Vandy and others who have been meaningless their entire existence) having the first real success they ever experienced as a program.

Everyone cheated to some extent prior to NIL and the portal being a thing. For the most part the SEC's dominance of college football for 20? years prior was based on Alabama's dominance of CFB....almost everyone in the SEC during that time were convinced Alabama was cheating as well...and like everyone in CFB they were to some extent but mainly what they were doing was stacking 4 and 5 star recruits three deep at almost every position AND getting those who weren't starting developed to step in when needed....they did this because they placed players in the NFL and in the first round of the NFL. LSU and UGA and Florida managed this also...even Auburn....but for the most part it was Nick Saban, the GOAT, who did it regularly. Ohio State also did it...but they had a moron coach who would have been fired 3 years ago if it were left up to Ohio State fans. No one else in CFB came close. Ohio State was as talented as the SEC, they just had shitty coaching.

There is also the fact that the area between South Carolina and Louisiana, excluding Florida which is a recruiting meca of its own, produces anywhere near as much NFL talent, in raw numbers or adjusted for population. This is where NFL players, especially linemen on both sides of the ball and linebackers, come from, and those positions win championships in CFB. This area is the front, sides and back yards of the SEC....when you toss Clemson and FSU into the mix the entire region dominated CFB prior to NIL and the portal...because it is where CFB and NFL talent come from. Georgia is 4th among NFL talent with about 1/3 or less the population of the first 3, Texas, California and Florida.

As far as UGA emerging toward the end of that run there is a simply explanation....Kirby Smart was Nick Saban's MAIN protege. That combined with the fact that NO one has won as consistently as UGA over the last 36 years than UGA except Ohio State, who, again, had bumbling idiots for head coaches during most of that span, and Alabama, who had the GOAT for part of that span. Georgia has been winning at a high level consistently for 36 years.

It wasn't the SEC being better at breaking the rules and no one noticing it was a combination of geographic location, good coaching at long time winning programs and stacking 4-5 stars three deep due to placement in the NFL. The rules changed for everyone and thus far it has been more advantageous to the BIG10 because Indiana came from obscurity. Ohio State and Michigan both had idiots at the helm who did not frick it up until the 2 seasons prior to that. One of those idiots was let go, in part for his involvement in a well known cheating scandal, and for being a very bad coach and the other one, Ryan Day, would be somewhere else today if it had been left up to Ohio State fans at the end of the 2023 season because he was and is a fricking moron.

Miami and Notre Dame would breeze through an SEC schedule

They would indeed breeze through it like a wet fart breezing through a pair of jeans...and the end result would be the same, they'd smell like shite and be a mess that had to be scraped up.

Miami would be firmly in the 2 loss crowd this season with more to come and Notre Dame would be in the 3 loss crowd staring at 5 for the season. Neither has the talented depth to make it through an SEC schedule or a BIG10 schedule, as easy as that would be.

You should feel honored - your school participated in the last, legitimate CFP Final Four before B1G-sanctioned cheaters, NIL and the transfer portal fricked up college football for good.

Granted, they got seal-clubbed on CFB's biggest stage to the point Georgia players were going over to the stands and eating chicken wings during the games, but at least the Frogs were mentioned on Jeopardy!

Get ready for lots of “muh cannibalizing” posts. Oh, and Auburn/South Carolina who have been perpetual jokes for a decade now would steamroll through the Big 10 and ACC

Either one would be 9-3 in the ACC, BIG10 or Big12....and 10-2 with Notre Dame's schedule.

"But muh 9-3 SEC team is better than your 10-2 ACC team!"

Fine. Here's a 24 team playoff. Prove it.

"Whut?"

The only thing that a 24 team playoff team will do is eliminate another game for the top 2 SEC teams against an elite SEC program....that will make a big difference but it will not eliminate the fact that SEC teams play a team with 5 or more NFL draft picks on average once every 1.4 weeks of the season while everyone else in CFB gets those types of teams once every 2.9 weeks of the season. Playing an SEC schedule also impacts the number of NFL picks because injuries and stats aren't what they would be in other conferences. With the number of NFL picks spread across the SEC compared to everyone else in CFB there are more "near" NFL picks spread across the SEC who do not get drafted due to injuries or stats impacted by playing high caliber athletes more often. The 24 team playoff will not change that, other than the one less game for the 2 best teams in the conference with the elimination of the SEC CG.

This is my absolute favorite northern inferiority complex talking point.

Yes, before NIL, no B1G school ever paid a player to attend and play for their program. Just as clean as the virgin snow.

its actually more moronic than this....take Ohio State currently. Their roster is rumored to be in the $50 million range. This means an Ohio State fan who says this stupid shite is saying that Nick Saban and Alabama were paying $50 million a year, without any trace of it, in order to stack national titles and the reason they haven't continued to do so is the rules changed and now Ohio State can also pay $50 million. We have seen some stupid shite in this country the last 61 years (my entire life) but there ain't none of it comes close to someone suggesting the rules changed and it broke the SECs dominance because everyone is now playing by the same rules when one of the leading groups of idiots espousing that tripe supports a program now paying $50 million for a college football roster. The rules changed for everyone and it brought Indiana out of the hellish existence it always was....Michigan and Ohio State won natty's finally after years of not winning them because one coach, who is an idiot, won after being involved in a cheating scandal, and the other, who would have been fired in 2023 if OSU fans had their way, managed to not frick up in 2024.

The truth of the matter is that, given the way Ohio State and Michigan dominated Indiana prior to NIL and with NIL Indiana has turned to tables somewhat that what Ohio State and Michigan fans are doing is called projection....knowing how much more THEY cheated compared to Indiana the fact that Indiana is now in their league is ample evidence that the cheating has been leveled off in the BIG10....

The SEC does need to turn things around. Even our SEC Champion the last 3 years has failed to win a single playoff game.

UGA lost one playoff game after losing their starting QB in the SEC CG against another SEC team and starting a new QB against Notre Dame and lost another playoff game against another SEC program after playing 9 SEC games and playing a 10th. No excuses, but its not like anyone other than SEC teams are largely responsible for UGA not winning a playoff game....ND Beat UGA in Gunner Stockton's first start....

So some say Miami won’t play anyone of substance until the playoffs and then when they blow thru those teams with substance they don’t get the credit. And then all these comments using polls as any measuring stick are just funny. The polls are nothing but opinion and gossip. Saying you beat 6 ranked teams and then getting your butt kicked in the playoffs pretty much invalidates those rankings.

So many posters believe in the tooth fairy, aka the polls, and then your brain short circuits when the rankings don’t hold water in the playoffs. It’s why no other serious sport uses rankings for anything.

Polls are a meaningless measure of anything. Just because SEC teams get ranked every week doesn’t mean a thing. The SEC is propped up by the media. When they actually have to play the games in December and January we’ve already see that the SEC has been shown to be a paper tiger. The SEC hasn’t won 1 playoff game in the past 3 years.

The media has nothing at all to do with SEC teams playing teams with NFL picks almost 3 times as often during the season as anyone team in any other conference my friend.

The Big-10 has won 3 straight. There is a history of conferences making runs of 3 or more consecutive championships..and this is no exception.

Like:

2023 - 2025 - Big-10 - 3 Straight
2019 - 2022 - SEC - 4 Straight
2006 - 2012 - SEC - 7 Straight
1978 - 1980 - SEC - 3 Sraight

It's the nature of the beast.

Miami may have more talent than anyone in the SEC...the fact remains that it is close BUT Miami's talent is not being banged on by the same caliber athlete as Auburn's is. Miami will certainly be more talented in terms of health when they breeze through the soft arse ACC
