Less controversial (I think) takeaways from this saga:
I think the SEC was able to bluff on expulsion in large part because LSU didn't have insight into what other SEC schools might do on something of this magnitude. I'm sure LSU thought it had a reasonable idea, but it didn't know for certain, and hence the collective panic yesterday and the letter today.
I don't really read that as "LSU doesn't have connections" so much as there being just enough distrust of other peer institutions to think "Would UGA/whomever really do it?"
